Bottom was always the polite word in my own family / community (UK late 50s / early 60s). It was also sometimes referred to as your seat ( as in seat of your pants I guess ). Bum and backside were tolerated by adults but frowned upon. Us kids knew about arse, but saying it would result in retribution of some kind..,,usually a spanking!! Buttocks I knew, but seldom used.I was also steeped in USA TV shows, films, literature, comics etc.. So even when I was quite young, I was learning words like ass, butt, heiney and so on. Everything American was thought to be so much cooler and better to us working class kids.
In my family we called it your buns: sit on your buns, wipe your buns, etc. When it came to temperature taking, though, I had learned about it with the words "rectal" and "rectally" so that was how I thought of it.
My favorite word for it is just "butt" because it's simple and to the point. At home it was "fesses" because I grew up in a bilingual household.
My mom was always somewhat clinical about it. It was my rear end for other things but my rectum when my temperature was going to be taken.
Hiney was used in my house. I used to complain about how much the"hiney thermometer" hurt. My " hiney" would be sore for hours afterwards.

It would have to be "bum" and to a lesser extend "bottom". Whenever I hear or see the word written I get fond memories.

Okoli(oh KO lee)is the Hawaiian term for ass. especially a lady's ass."Sweet Okoli" is a song I remember hearing there.
As a child growing up in the US the word was hiney - maybe a sign of the times. As an adult now living in Canada bum is the preferred word of choice and it isn't even a slang term - can be quite vanilla in use.
For me it has to be hiney. Just something about a nurse or dr saying roll over so i can take your temperature in your hiney. It just drives me crazy hehe.
@Beckylynn1 It has become my new favorite word too with a couple friends of mine. As a kid, it was always called dupa.
When our daughters were little, it was usually "tushy." It's such a cute word. Especially around bedtime it was often, "get that cute little tushy in bed, or into the bath or shower." It was the same when I was very young.
