Historically all of the paraphilias (klismaphilia being only one of many), men dominate the ranks. I do see more women online these days that will admit to liking enemas though. I know we'd like to think that klismaphilia is more popular than it is, but it's not. It's pretty rare.
Also, people dont' do enemas like they used to. I can remember when during a stay in hospital, there was a pretty good chance you'd be getting a soapy enema or two if you stayed very long as a patient. It used to be somewhat routine before most surgeries.
I had two given to me When I was having my tonsils out. the nurse told my mom that an enema was routine before most surgical procedures. Because mine was tonsils, she wasnt' going to do it until she did an abdominal and rectal exam and found I actually was constipated.
Two soapy buckets later, I was cleaned out, or so I thought. My mom stayed in the room the whole time, asking questions and hovering over me. She asked for and got an extra enema set to take home and use on me. That's probably why I have an affinity for the plastic bucket style enemas. I hadnt' had one for a long time, but found out last year that they do still use them, but rarely in hospital.
I"d told the nurse that I was a bit constipated. My record shows a 'high intolerance for most oral laxatives - esp stimulants. I was given a suppository, that didn't work. I laid and waited for another hour or two. Finally the nurse came back in and said ,
"Dr wants me to start an IV, then he wants me to do an enema"
I got one of those disposable Fleet type which also did nothing. My nurse told me there 'wasn't a lot more we could do tonight that we haven't done. I asked about bigger enemas. She said that large volume enemas are 'kind of a last resort' were 'extremely uncomfortable' and I 'wouldn't like them' but she said she would do them if I wanted to go that route. I told her to go ahead. She went to get the Drs order but he was off shift and the attending who replaced him didn't want the liability so he refused to order large volume enemas. He did order a mineral oil enema though.
A tech gave me the oil enema and I really liked it. I had to keep my butt in the air for over an hour to allow the oil to flow 'far up into the bowel'. I was waiting for what I thought would be soapsud enemas but was discharged instead. I inquired about SSE's but was told that Dr felt I"d had enough enemas and wouldn't order more.
I went home and took a nap. I was awakened after a couple of hours by the phone. It was the hospital. They said there had been a mix up and I was to return to hospital immediately. I thought it was some paperwork to sign or something. Imagine my surprise when the receptionist loudly called across the room " to let me know that The former Dr had ordered SSE's after the oil, but that order was misplaced.
Long story short, I got 2 large soapy enemas, my bowels opened ofter the 2nd
This time I got an extra one to take home because the first one the nurse took out was missing the soap packet.
