@Jds4med - I was in the hospital in either early July of 1950 or '51. I cannot remember exactly. At this point, I appreciate my parents scheduling this during the summer vacation.Partly because my memory is starting to go, partly because the experience was so embarrassing and/or humiliating.
@JTMac form - As for the nurse, she was not one of the 20-something girls just out of nursing school. Perhaps more like 40. Two days after the operation, I had to pee desperately, but I couldn't release a stream of urine. When the nurse came in, I told her, and she said "I know what will help you", went out. She returned soon with a catheter and the associated equipment. After she lubed the first 2-3 inches (maybe more), she started to insert the catheter. I was scared to death, thinking it was going to harm my penis and that it would hurt a lot. She held my penis gently but firmly and slowly got the catheter going. Before hand, she did say that she would probably not have to insert the whole thing (about 10" long), but the she could stop as soon as the urine started to flow. Because she was so gentle, I never felt much discomfort much less pain. After inserting 3-4 inches she got the urine to flow, and directed the stream into a urinal. As it flowed, gently pulled the catheter out. After this hospital stay, I have been catheterized only once since (by a male nurse 20 years later), and I must admit that this nurse was far more gentle and concerned about her patient's comfort than the male.
The second day after this, I had to be catheterized a second time, again by the same nurse. She used the same care as she had the first time, and I was able to release urine very quickly that time. After that episode, she continue to come in daily and look at me. However, except for the two catheterizations, she never came close to touching me or fondling my penis.
