Closest Iāve come at a real exam was in a drug screening as part of an employment exam. A female nurse brought me to a restroom down the hall. She stood outside, but said the door needed to stay open enough that she could listen. She glanced around the corner of the door, briefly, while I was urinating into the container. After Iād filled the container, I finished into the toilet, and the nurse closed the door when she heard the sound of my stream hitting the water. She actually seemed a bit more awkward about the whole thing than I did. I remember someone passing by in the hallway spoke to her, and she seemed embarrassed to be telling them she couldnāt talk because she was monitoring me.
There were several times Iāve also just been given the container, and expected to fill it in the exam room. I was usually behind a screen, while the doctor, and/or nurses were still in the room. Once, in another country, I was given a glass beer stein to use, (not kidding.) I was behind a screen, but Iām sure the doctor could hear, as I nearly filled the glass.
There were times when I was a teenager, when I was given a container, before getting undressed at the beginning of an exam, and sent through the waiting room to the bathroom. It was awkward, although the container was in a small paper bag. Iām sure others in the waiting room were well aware what I was carrying in that bag. I remember one time, when the waiting room was very crowded, having trouble getting things started once I was in the bathroom, because I was so unnerved. I was worried someone could hear me from sitting right outside the door.
When I was younger, we used to bring the urine samples from home, in little glass jars. So, that first time, as a teen, when I was given the container at the doctorās, and needed to perform on the spot, it was a bit of a problem, because Iād just used the bathroom. I barely got a few drops into the container! The think I had to return, a day or two later, just to give a better urine sample.
