I had a drug screen as a condition of employment a few years ago. I don't work in a safety sensitive job (unless there are unknown hazards in cubicle world) but it is corporate policy so there before the grace of Quest Diagnostics go I. Now, I have seen and interacted with my share of unprofessional and disrespectful medical providers in my young life but this one is for the books.
I checked in at the kiosk at the reception lobby. I was not ready to provide a specimen so I was scolded by the receptionist for checking in. Drug tests are time sensitive so checking in before being ready to provide a specimen is prohibited. There was no warning of this during the check in process. Had there been so I would have exited the check in process.
A few minutes later I was called into the collection room by another unpleasant woman. I tried to inform her that I was not yet ready to provide a specimen but she just ignored my statement and acted like I did not even speak. They were then having some difficulty checking me in so as a courtesy I offered my employer info, phone contact, etc. I was then told to remain seated and mind my own business. I kid you not.
Then the technician calls me back to the collection area where once again I advised her I was not ready to provide a specimen at which point shee barked at me for wasting her time. I said I would go to the waiting room and drink some water until I was ready. She then screamed at me "Don't walk away from me when I am speaking and don't you ever interrupt me when I speaking to you" She then gave me the riot act about what I can and cannot do during my wait time in the lobby. Remain silent, remain in the waiting area and don't be disruptive. Again, I kid you not.
I drank a few cups of water and about 1/2 an hour later I was ready. The bitchy tech gave me some empty your pockets and empty your bladder song and dance followed by signing a chain of custody form. Then I got a sarcastic "Have a nice day" from her. I had enough. I retorted "It appears you fell from the tree of unpleasantness this morning and hit every branch on the way down. You are a disgrace to your profession and have no business interacting with people. I do hope they keep you away from children, you miserable bitch." I walked out.
The plot thickens...The following Monday I was at new employee orientation. The technician had the nerve to complain to my employer regarding the incident. I had a talk with the HR manager who wanted to know what happened. After explaining my side of the story the HR manager understood completely and I was not the only new hire who had a run in with Quest and perhaps it was time to find a new vendor.
I was embarrassed and beyond infuriated that this unruly bitch complained about me. As cliched as it may sound "This time it's war." I went on a relentless email/voicemail campaign to Quest Corporate about this woman. I was hoping it paid off.
About a year later I had my first annual physical with my new doctor and as such she ordered some lab tests and (Now I am the antagonist. The hunted is now the hunter...haha) so out of curiosity I returned to Quest due to the convenience factor (two blocks from work). I checked in but Receptionist Bitch One was not present. Technician Bitch Two saw me, came out to the lobby and started cursing me out in front of a lobby full of customers including a few kids (I have this thing about cursing people out in the presence of children) and told me to "Get the F**K out". Unbeknownst to Ms Crazy I recorded the entire incident on my phone. I then sent an email to Quest Corporate with a video attachment stating this will be posted on YouTube within one week unless you do something about this angry employee. I received an email two days later assuring me this incident would be investigated and appropriate action would be taken should any wrongdoing be confirmed. The next time I went there this woman was no longer working there. The new technician was certainly pleasant and jovial enough and although I am satisfied with the outcome the damage is done and it is too late as far as I am concerned. I now have my labs taken at the hospital.
