I have been self-spanking since I was sixteen or so. Over the years, I guess I have developed a higher tolerance for pain so the spankings I 'get' are quite intense at times.
So, in order to give a proper spanking, you must first find a position which allows you the most mobility of your chosen spanking arm. In my case, laying on my left side, slightly bent at the waste as if preparing to spoon with your lady/man.
Next, you must predetermine your implements and have them close at hand. Paddles work best in this position. Caning, switching, belts, etc have to be done whilst standing.
Now that you know what you will use, determine how many swats you will get. A total of 50 - 100 with each implement is a good place to start. Some implements won't be felt through clothing so you have to adjust your sequence of implements accordingly.
I most often use a wooden hairbrush, a plastic 'cane' (actually the thing you use to open and close blinds - it is highly flexible and delivers a good sting if swung hard) and a brush with a long handle. Now, get into position and start over your pants/jeans. If you are wearing jeans or other thick material, do no less than 100 swats, medium strength, 10 at a time, altering cheeks, 10 in a row to the left, then 10 to the right and so on. They should be closely spaced so the sting builds quickly but medium in strength. Do not stop until all 100 swats have been given. If you wish, add on another 100 at this time, again no breaks and the swats should be harder.
Now that your bottom is a bright pink, stinking and warm to the touch, remove all clothing except your underwear/panties. Get back into position and grab the hairbrush. Again, a minimum of 50 swats, 100 swats is better, medium strength, sets of 5 to each cheek in quick succession. It should take not more than a couple seconds for each set of 5. If you are going for 100, you may pause to admire your handiwork at 50 and to identify any areas which need addition attention.
Now, remove your remaining clothing and stand, nude, in the corner, your nose pressed firmly into the wall, your bottom thrust out and on display. Whilst in this position, contemplate your coming paddling with the heavy brush. Think about how hard it will be and how much you deserve this. After five minutes is up, if you wish to add strokes of the cane, do so before the main event, twenty hard, whistling strokes. With the cane, you need to practice strokes with both hands so as to get an even marking and so you don't strike your back.
Caning done? Good, now, back into position on your side and grab the heavy brush. test swing it a few times to get the feel for the balance and how much wrist you need to bring it around so as to make firm and complete contact with the tender 'sit spot' but make no test strokes of any significance. You should have no 'warning' of how much it will sting until the first stroke lands and then it is too late.
Begin the spanking now, medium strokes on your bare bottom in sets of 10 - 20 to each cheek. Each set should be targeted at a different location (e.g. sit spot, left side, right side, crown of the cheek, etc). After four sets of 10 - 20, start over on the target areas and deliver hard, evenly spaced swats. Your goal for each of these sets should be not less than 50 or 60 swats.
Now you are ready for your final punishment. Wet both cheeks with a mixture of water and glycerin, then get back into position. Steel your nerve as this will have you howling. Deliver forty swats, alternating every two strokes, about a second apart. Use a full swing and a good snap of the wrist just before impact to maximize the affect.
When you are done, I guarantee a bruised, red and hurting bottom.
