As a male doctor in my 50’s, I’m glad to hear that there are patients out there that appreciate the more experienced and refined bed side manner of an “older” doctor. A bit of an age difference seems to reinforce the air of authority. I believe that the mental aspect of vulnerability is 90% of this game 😀

Perhaps the fantasy of being examined by an older doctor precludes the notion of there being any sex.

The fantasy includes the idea that an older doctor isn't really interested in direct sex per se, not the usual penetrative sex in any case. Perhaps there is an axiom that goes with the fantasy that posits the idea that older people don't have sex, but can impose less explicitly sexually infused situations on others anyway.

I think the biggest thing I like about older doctors is the thoroughness of the exam. They know that diagnosis comes from not only listening to a patient's complaint, but also trying to get to the root of the problem, not just treating symptoms. The best way to find out what's really going on? A thorough exam. They feel for all the lumps and bumps, and modesty be damned if they need to examine or visualize the body. I think that it's their experience and not getting hung up on modesty "rules" that makes them the best doctors to see.

Older every time, yes! I can't count the number of times a 20 or 30 something young man tells me he has experience and just doesn't seem to get that they are way too young. It's not about your couple of years (or 5 or 10) of experience. It's about how you look. Fresh out of med school doesn't work for me - sorry.

One of the few perks of growing older is I am now considered an older and more experienced playdoc. Having started when I worked in hospitals during my college years and learned from older, experienced docs does have advantages.

Absolutely. Recently I needed to renew my FAA medical exam. I looked up the list of the few doctors available and chose the oldest one, he was probably almost 70 (I'm 32). My pediatrician (who also delivered every single person in my family, cousins included), gave me my very first vaginal exam. It was not hot, he did NOT really want to do it, but I was spotting for a month or more. I had not told my mother or anyone else. I just went to his office. I don't really remember the entire exam, only that he found a cyst. To disolve the cyst, He then prescribed heavy doses of birth control pills for the next month (or so).

I was 15? I did NOT follow through for the entire prescription.

However, he was a no nonsense, strict, stern (not mean) do what I say doctor. I do not have ANY fantasies about him.

Age isn't as important to me as attitude, but definitely prefer over 40 for play doc.

Of course! Older physicians tend to be the most thorough in my experience. They tend to ask the patient to strip down to underwear and usually include some sort of a genital exam, even if just a quick hernia check.
