Meghan enters the exam room. It is a typical exam room with the exam table in the right back corner, a couple of chairs against the wall to the left, a small counter and sink straight ahead against the back wall, and a small rolling stool with a laptop stand to the right of the exam table. The exam table is laid flat, with fresh table paper, and no stirrups out. Meghan is hoping she was seeing things when she thought she caught a glimpse of the stirrups pulled out in the exam room Mandy came out of.....

The nurse instructs Meghan to remove her blazer and heels. Meghan unbuttons and removes her blazer and hangs it on the back of one of the chairs, then has a seat and unbuckles each ankle strap of her heels and pulls them off, setting them under the chair. The nurse motions Meghan over to the exam table and tells her to have a seat. Meghan steps up onto the small step at the base of the table and hops up, sitting on the end of the table, making the table paper crinkle loudly. The nurse says that the doctor and a nurse to chaperone will be with her shortly, and leaves.

Meghan is alone with her thoughts. She is getting quite nervous now, and she is beginning to be sure that she will have some kind of internal exam or maybe even a full pelvic. She knows that Mandy looked upset and embarrassed when she met her in the hallway, she wasn’t bubbly and smiling and enthusiastic like she was before.

Meghan realizes that she can hear muffled conversation in the exam room next door. She also hears some paper rustling, probably the table paper, and then some metallic clanging before some more paper rustling, then quiet. She is certain that the metallic clanging was the sound of stirrups being pulled out! She then hears four distinct clicks, then quiet. Meghan has heard those plastic sounding clicks before, at her last pelvic exam. The plastic speculum being opened.....

After a few minutes pass by Meghan hears some more talking, but like before it sounds too muffled to be able to make out the words. Another quiet few minutes or so then she hears more paper rustling, then some more muffled talking. A moment later she hears a door open and close. Meghan now knows a pelvic exam is inevitable. She just hopes that at least there is no rectal exam involved, she has never had one of those before!
