Soap - After effect/ Irritation

I have experienced some residual effects after taking a soapy enema. These are usually quite minimal and manageable. I generally use castile soap in the hospital packet or Dr. Bronner's. These effects are not absolute and I can minimize or eliminate them with a rinse or two. In most cases, I am eliminating on a regular basis within about 24 hours. This is influenced by what I eat afterward.

Soapy enemas are quite effective if an extra boost is desired for cleansing. I otherwise use tap water for more frequent indulgences.

My Mom seemed to know exactly how much Ivory soap to swish in the family enema can so that the urge to "release" was satisfied but there was not enough residue to cause irritation and make a plain water flush unneeded. I now assume that older siblings were Mom's guinea pigs in finding the correct soap level.

I used soap only once to try and did not like it

Dr. Bronners Peppermint is great and gives a good clean-out. Don't over do it and it can be pleasant.

I have all but stopped using soap. I've used Br. B's, Ivory, J & J Baby Wash and used Kirk's Hard water Castile soap once. The Kirks dissolves very fast and gives a very strong solution that made me vomit. With my radiated rectum, I am very sensitive to soap and use tap water almost always. The few times I've used J &J Baby Wash, I get a lot of mucous expelling after being empty. I don't need my bowel mucous stripped off with my radiation burns and scarring.

Personally, I feel little residual irritating effects from dissolving a solid soap to its limit of solubility into water. I've never used a liquid soap and obviously, a liquid soap can end up with a very high concentration. Generally speaking, after a soapy enema, the rinse tends to be clearer.

I read somewhere that soap enemas can be linked to colon cancer and rectal cancer. So be very very careful there, I wouldn't want to see anyone go through that.

Also, what happened to "if you wouldn't put it in your mouth don't put it in your ass"? I think these are the words to live by.

Seen the cancer thing in a family member, agree with your second statement.

Not a doctor, but in looking at what I was going to do I scoured the research I could find (including the full-text when I could get it) and didn't see any reliable connection between soapsuds and cancer. Did see many linking poor soap choices (Hibiclens?) or absurdly strong solutions with colitis and other nasties, as well as a number on the dangers of phosphate enemas.

I use light soapsuds for the first because it makes things move faster.
