Yesterday while on the phone to my hmo s nurse advice line. On the callback I mentioned That I felt I may have a fever and was checking it now but it would be another two minutes due to an old thermometer. After some other medical questions the nurae asked if I had that temperature reading yet.
"yah, one second. I have to take it out"
"ok, well take your time"
""Mm looks like 101.8. And that is rectal. My specialty clinic asks me to do it that way. I'm not sure why.
"Well it is more accurate. Ok, so elevated temperature of 101.8 rectal, correct?
"Yes"
I've done this a few other times. On one callback I was asked my temperature and said,
"one minute, I have to find the right thermometer, they usually ask for rectal temperatures at my neuro. Is that ok?
"Certainly "
Pause while I prepare
G" ok, that will take about three minutes though.
"No problem, I'll wait on the phone with you"
It may not seem much, but the thought of a young nurse (or even receptionist who you must call first, and I make them wait for it too) standing by knowing ive got a device inside is kinda hot.
The only other slightly exhibitionistic thing ive done is to tell the callback nurse that I am being given a suppository or enema from my roommate and asking if I should pause. She told me to continue, take my time and she would stand by
