My updated fav diaper and how I discovered it, plus a few tips along the way . . .
Not so many years ago, it wasn’t so easy to find high quality adult disposable diapers and, for that reason, I’d turned to washable cotton diapers and worn them for well over a decade. In the current era, I’ve noticed great improvement in disposables and that manufacturers have finally caught on to the demand for quality diapers worn by adults.
Over the past two or three years, I’ve systematically tried a large number of products in my attempt to find "the very best" for reliability, large capacity for extended wear, and, most of all, comfort. My search took off when I glanced upon a small ad in the Canadian Legion Magazine by the Healthwick company. Healthwick operates in both Canada and the U.S., using separate websites and prices geared to both currencies. I would highly recommend this company as a convenient single source for diapers and related products. In Canada, they ship orders via Canada Post in unmarked brown boxes that arrive within two or three business days. With each order, they offer one free sample of your choice of any diaper product (an easy way to explore unfamiliar products) and their inventory of products is as extensive as any I’ve seen. If you subscribe to their e-mails for discounted specials on new products, you could wind up saving a bundle. For example, I received one a week ago for the "Rearz Inspire+ ‘InControl’ Super Absorbent" diaper priced at CDN $34.99 for a package of 12, but discounted to $29.99 for any quantity and subsequently purchased a three-month supply. To date, my favorite has been the "Reaz ‘Inspire’ Super Absorbent": http://www.healthwick.ca/rearz-inspire-super-absorbent-adult-diapers/. Those of you who are already familiar with the Rearz line of products will know that child-like printed diapers are also offered and these are available at Healthwick.
A potential problem associated with a large capacity diaper is that they will definitely begin to sag in use. One way to counteract this is to plan the time of day when fresh ones are put on or changed. Another method is to find a women’s shapewear panty to cover and support the diaper. Here is one I like for at-home use that is comfortable and has "light control": http://www.jockey.ca/catalog/product/tummy-shapewear-brief. This item exactly covers my Rearz diaper. For more control and away-from-home use, here is another: http://www.herroom.com/rago-513-high-waist-panty-brief-panty.shtml. An important note for men shopping for these items: Refer to the sizing chart given by each manufacturer to carefully choose your best fit! Be aware that a size given by one manufacturer might differ from that of another manufacturer. Additionally, a man’s waist vs. hip measurement might fall outside of a single size on the chart as these are set for women’s proportions. Your best bet is to give highest consideration to the waist measurement. If the garment contains a stretch material such as spandex, you are probably safe with the smaller hip size vs. the all-important waist measurement.
