I've worn diapers 24/7 for about 30 years, and after 9 belly surgeries I tend to get bowel obstructions. One way I get better faster is with an NG Tube stuffed down my nose, and walking to help the bowel "wake up" again. I prefer wearing my own diapers, either ABU SDK, ABU Cushies, ABU Space, or Molicare Super Plus, cause hospital diapers SUCK!!
I rarely get much warning of impending BMs, and have been walking in the hallways, diaper butt showing through the open back gown, pushing an IV pole loaded with morphine, wearing my Budweiser beer can slippers (Bud slippers are for another story) when the poop DEMANDS to be released. Sometimes I don't get back to my room fast enough, and I wind up filling my diaper. There's not a thing I can do about it so I find myself walking in the hallway in LOADED diapers.
The best part of that situation is that I can't shower, and usually my IV is in my hand, making it impossible to change and clean myself. I just call for a nurse, whonormallycallsa second one for assistance, and get a complete diaper change with a well-washed butt performed by 2 nurses. I always try to make light of it, and sometimes make a comment like, "I bet I'm the biggest messy diaper baby ya'all had to change today, aren't I?" They laugh, usually agree, and never seem to mind helping me get sorted out.
Nurses are ALWAYS interested in the premium diapers I bbring, and usually say they'd like it if the hospital would change to diapers such s ABU diapers. I'veneer had a nurse not say something about the ABUs being cute, and I reply "Yes, they're cute, but mostly they WORK better than your hospital diapers!" A couple times my nurse would come into my room with another or two in tow to ask if she could show the others my diapers. I'm happy to oblige them.
