@quincy At this point I don't have much choice as far as dentists go. The only way I can afford to have work done on my teeth now is by having MassHealth again. (Which is the government assistance health care for Massachusetts) I can't travel far to see a dentist since I don't drive, and after extensive searching online for another dentist before seeing the same one to fix my broken molar this past summer, I only found one other office in my area that accepts MassHealth. I read reviews and asked friends that have gone to that office, and I've heard stories as bad as what I've seen with my own dentist. (Apparently, sub-par work is the general theme for what you get with the bottom of the barrel coverage. Can't say I blame them.) So this past time I just decided to stick with what I knew, as bad as it was. It wound up taking 5 appointments to fix my broken molar. The initial exam, the first part of the root canal, the second part of the root canal, putting on the temporary crown, then the permanent crown. There was shockingly little discomfort for the majority of those appointments, except for the one where I was fairly confident he hit a nerve with the anesthetic.
And prior to my turning 18, I was also with MassHealth for many years. So even though I asked my mom to switch dentists, we still had no real choice. As far as I know, the other office that accepts MassHealth wasn't even open at the time. I would love to be able to see absolutely anyone else, but I just can't afford to pay out of pocket for dental work right now, so I'm stuck with getting far less than perfect care when I need it. And that much I've come to accept, honestly. In times of desperation, like when I broke my molar on a popcorn kernel and the pain after three months of letting it be was getting unbearable, I was willing to take any sort of help I could get. Even his. When I first broke it I didn't even have MassHealth. I was stuck on a (very pricey) insurance plan through my college, which didn't offer any sort of dental coverage. I had to try and apply for MassHealth, and thankfully I was given temporary coverage soon enough to get it fixed before I lost my mind.
After my last appointment with him though and the needle hitting the nerve, I can safely say that if I need more dental work done (Beyond a simple teeth cleaning), I will be giving the other office a call. How much worse can they really be?
