Hey All,
just wanted to share my personal experience with salt & baking soda solution. In short, it caused my first ever electrolyte imbalance episode ever, and yes, I took enemas (and many times more than 5 in a sequence) for more than 15 years.
I normally take salt (NaCl 0.9%) or plain water enemas, holding between 1 and 2qts comfortably. The first in a series are plain water. To date, I never had issues with these, but there is cramping and peristaltic movement with plain water and While the effects are better with salt water, cramping is still there. I don't usually hold for more than 5 mins though.
Now, I tried salt & baking soda (1+1 teaspoons per qt) @40c and the results were fantastic. The whole experience is very erotic, very smooth, almost no cramps when holding 2 qts. The first evening, I didn't rinse after the salt & bs solution, yet I felt just great. The following morning I woke up with the mother of all headaches, low bp (90/65) and high pulse (110-115). It looked like electrolyte depletion, and sure enough, 2 pcks of he-hydrating salt put me back to normal in about 2hrs. Then - don't laugh - i just had another salt & bs enema, again feeling great... until about 20 mins in, when I felt my pulse go haywire. I took a pure water one (to rinse my gut) and popped one more re-hydration pack and drunk about 1/2 qts of water, and that put me back to normal.
Not sure if my potassium levels are low, but just watch out when using baking soda... hope it doesn't happen to you. In case you're not familiar, re-hydration packs are a mix of chloride and potassium salts, meant to help after... well, de-hydration. Isotone drinks would do pretty much the same, except they're more flavoured.
