Higginson

The most volume per squeeze I have come across in higginsons bulbs is just 4 to 6 oz.

I like to use a "Y" connector to a bag with soapy watter and a pump for small volumes of lightly diluted glycerin or mineral oil. A larger volume would be great!

It's my choice for daily morning enemas. Right from the bathroom sink. 6-8 squirts if I'm in a hurry, many more other days. I use it when I don't have the time or desire to fill the 2 or 4 quart bag. So simple: fill the sink with warm water, finger rubbed on the bar soap and inserted for lube, and I'm ready. Clean up with some soap on the noz, and you are done.

I use a higginson every time i use a syphon setup, just drop the hose in an open top container thats about head high and use the pump to start the flow and if i want to speed up the flow just give the bulb a few pumps. Lee

I enjoy getting an enema with a higginsons syringe, the squeezing sound of the bulb and the pumping really arouses me.

I've recently graduated from gravity-feed and now use a Higginson bulb exclusively. My nozzle is the Klystra KB2, 1½ inches in diameter and 6 inches long.

This was rather frightening when it came in the mail, but poses no particular problem being inserted... just take it slow and easy. I have modified the nozzle with a check valve, however. Now I can fill myself and then remove the hose, the nozzle remaining in securely as a very effective plug. I do chores around the house this way and have never had any leakage. No amount of internal pressure can push it out, but it can be pulled out with about the same difficulty as putting it in. It's a tight seal. The Higginson bulb seems a must with this setup, as the nozzle appears to run into something when inserted fully, sealing-off the opening in the end. The extra pressure from the Higginson is needed to insure flow, but I wish I could find something faster. Perhaps that marine pump!

I made my own using a squeeze bulb and 3/4" latex tubing...

When very young I bought a bulb , 25 years ago I bought my first Higginson , since that day I never used a bulb , so nice to use the higginson with a good nozzle that doesn't slip out the ass.

I really enjoy the pumping sensation of the Higginson as it reminds me of my first enema from my grandmother when I was about 5 years old.

I am a great proponent of the Higginson syringe. It is portable, not bulky, needs no place to hang it from, can be used for large or small enemas. It's main drawback is it is not as easy to use for self-administration, but it is perfect if you are being given an enema. In this respect I am lucky, as I don't have to self-administer with any frequency. A Higginson and a loving hand are a recipe for a wonderful experience.

I think there is a tendency to always remember the kind of syringe used on your first experience of enemas, and to have this in mind as your 'standard'. Not having grown up in the USA, the most frequent devices used were the Higginson or the enema/douche can. Although they have been largely replaced by the ubiquitous Fleet, or the enema bag, there is still much to be said for them, and I can recommend that anyone who has never used one to try this syringe.

The well known manufacturers of the past seem to have dissapeared, but as always get the best quality that you can.

The only problem with modern 'Higginson' syringes, usually made in China, is that they only have one valve - on the suction end which goes in the container.

So, when the bulb is released to re-charge it from the container, water is drawn both from the container and from the rectum.

So, there is a probability of contamination of the bulb - not so much a problem if its for the sole use of one person - but if its used for others it might be.

The vintage models had a one way valve on the suction end and another on the outlet from the bulb. No doubt if you could obtain a suitable one way valve this could be inserted into the outlet from the bulb simply by cutting the tube - but the modern ones are cheap enough to buy two and cannibalise one of them for the valve.

Without that valve you can of course pinch the outlet tube till the bulb is filled - but for solo use thats not easy to do.

Sorry to hear about the single valve Higginson. Last year, on another forum, a first-time Higginson user was complaining about how his worked and I didn't understand what he was experiencing. Now his complaint makes sense.

I slowly hand-pump a full 2+ qts. into my colon accompanied by regular massage to ensure clearing all the small diverticula.

For now I'm fortunate in owning an in-line bulb that's double valved. It was in the Rojo catalog before the owner died in 2009.

It would be good if one of the major vendors found the source of that bulb and cataloged it for sale. It was sold only with complete kits (bag, hose, nozzles etc.)

Meanwhile, I'll hunt for an inline check valve to keep handy should my hand-pump fail.

Imac - a good source for double valved inline bulbs is at Twist My Rubber Arm. I've also found them to be good for colon tubes and inflatable nozzles.

I buy my inline bulbs at Harbor Freight, item #93290, when they are on sale. They have

good check valves in both ends, and are well made. At $5.97, I have them on most of

my tubes.

Check valves can be bought at Beth Tyler e-shop , or you can use the check valves off an electric coffee machine , approx the same price here in Europe .

A check valve is more secure for hygiene and to prevent back flow .

Like Big K wrote it , you must have 2 ( TWO ) check valves , with one it will NEVER work properly .

I find the Higginson is an excellent aid for the first of several enemas especially if it is soapsuds. As the solution slowly flows from a bag hung about three feet from the floor, expanding the rectum, and the cramping begins.. the Higginson is perfect for easing the solution past accumulated material in the lower bowel thus reducing discomfort in the rectum. Once the enema is flowing into the decending colon the Higginson can be used to add pressure sensations or simply speed up the enema delivery.

As others have mentioned, the Higginson requires two valves to operate properly. I have found the valves sold by Optimalhealthnetwork.com to be excellent and reasonably priced. The have a larger bore than others yet most bulbs and tubing sizes will fit from 1/4" to 1/2". This permits either gentle or rapid flow.

One of these valves can also be used with your tubing (in-line) to prevent backflow which is a great addition to the enema proceedure which I highly recomend.

You can invent your own ideas with a pressure bulb in the boat section at Walmart.Holds up pretty good since its made for gasoline.Never have checked to see how many ounces it holds.

I bought one of those squeeze bulbs that they have in the boat section at walmart, works good but I had to put a check valve in the supply line. Looks like they hold about 3 oz of liquid.

The higginson syringe is presently my favorite. I warm my solution on the stovetop to 105f. Take the pot of warm water solution and drop one end of the hose in and off we go. I also take 2 serving forks and slip that end of the tubing inbetween the tines. This keeps it at the bottom of the pot.

I don't have a real Higginson syringe... But I do own an inline pump that I like to connect to the hose of the enema bag. It adds another dimension to the enema session. If the recipient of the enema has a little trouble accepting the solution a few good pumps sets them straight & the enema continues. This works great especially in a D&S setting. If wanted, it can imply that "you're getting the whole bag" as does the implication of a balloon nozzle. As for sensuality, you have the ability to f@#k the recipient with the water traveling across the anal walls by pumping that bulb at different rhythms. It is definitely the sort of thing an enema enthusiast would want whether they are into D&S or just like sensual and/or erotic enemas.

In the area of not using a real higginson or not having one. The auto parts stores have plastic flow valves with nipples for tubing. Even with or without any valves loop the tubing in your hand once or twice and quickly squeeze it! "Did I dooo Thaaat?? Talk about keeping it simple!

Yes, I have had a double balloon silicone Higginson from Optimal Health and I really enjoy using it. However, a roommate decided to try it and stripped out the closures on one of the pumps, so I need to order a replacement, that part is not terribly expensive, fortunately.

A Higginson is a wonderful thing to have to help reach that extra level of volume taken that we all seek and enjoy!

I had a Higginson from one of the online suppliers, mighta been Beth Tyler -- until the tubing wore out near the bulb. I didn't use it all that much, because, for my money, the bulb oughtta be in the 8 - 12 ounce range, to give the kind of pressure boost I'd prefer.

I imagine most of you have seen The Road to Wellville. I really would like to have the apparatus the nurse used to give Matthew Broderick's character his enemas. Just the look of it is sexy, but it also looks as though it gives satisfying sensations when handled savvily. Of course, I had to have the DVD (which was hard to find.

How many of you use a higginson syringe with your enemas? I really enjoy using one for my regular soapsuds enema because it has a one-way valve, water does not flow backwards and I am in control how fast it goes in. I have a hose dedicated to its use and have it placed about 18" from the syringe end, of course the other end of the hose is attached to the enema bag. Besides it is somewhat erotic to feel the surge from every squeeze of the bulb! 😉 So I make it a point to squeeze it a lot!

I have found that Higginsons deliver a weak flow even attached to a high can or bag. I think that the flow depends on the diameter of the smallest tube or nozzle so enema gear can only give so much flow. Raising the can or bag brings the flow closer it its maximum. For me enema pleasure is associated with a slow filling or sometimes large flow given briefly.

For nozzles the Cara douche bulb nozzle gives the best sensation attached to a translucent bucket. It is large, curved, inexpensive and smooth.

I have fashioned my own enema bucket out of the g-litely container (a little irony there).
