One of the reasons I need diapers today is because of a folly catheter. I was in an Army hospital for an emergency appendectomy and while I was coming out of the anesthesia a brain dead orderly tried to catheterize me. They were supposed to do it to the guy in the next bed and the orderly wasn’t even qualified or allowed. He just thought he could save the nurse some time by doing it himself. Needless to say, he screwed it up and I started pissing blood and myself. I recovered from that but Diabetes pushed me back over the edge and diapers have pretty much become my New Underwear. The last time I was in the hospital for some tests my Urologist had to talk my doctor out of using a catheter on me and told her to let me use diapers. I know there are some good reasons for using a catheter but won’t if I can help it.

Generally no, the biggest danger is UTIs with Foley catheters. I have been catheterized a number of times as well as I used to have to self catheterize. I can see though that someone who is not qualified or trained to place Foley catheters could possibly damage something inside of the bladder my biggest concern would be this person over-inflating the retention balloon. That was very screwed up and I hope this person was properly punished. Since I suffer with neurogenic bladder I can understand the situation you are going through. Diapers have become a part of my life as well.
