That's a really old but interesting thread brought up again.
So let's give it a try:
1) Absolutely necessary for an exam are
- Exam gloves,
- Lube,
- Rectal thermometer,
- Speculum (or rather specula😉 ),
- Enema/Douche bulb (at least on the instruments tray...),
- some suppositories and
- the patients file.
2) Further appreciated equipment is
- a scale,
- stirrups/knee rests (or something the patient can put her legs/feet on),
- IV pole and enema bag with some nozzles,
- a variety of specula including anal specula/anoscopes etc.,
- a blood pressure monitor,
- a lightsource, some wooden spatulas, maybe even an otoscope,
- q tips for getting samples
and much more. Now I start dreaming of all the possible treatments my patients might require. And as their doctor it is my duty to do whatever necessary for their well-being - including having all sorts of instruments available 😃
Edit: Ooops, I forgot the already mentioned stethoscope...
