Okay, so I realized after I wrote my first post here that I didn't do my homework on the site about previous people's experiences with the Dry 24/7 diapers. They aren't a new product. However, in the interest of providing another point of view, here is my review:
ABSORBENCY:
The most important feature of any diaper is its absorbency. This is where the 24/7 really shines. I'm pleased to say that it excels in total capacity and in squeeze-out leaks. My test setup with this diaper was just a single 24/7 with one large booster (the large Abena booster sold at XP Medical). What a combination!! This diaper made it through 6 hours of small but frequent wettings that were fueled by a 64oz. Diet Mountain Dew and at least another 48oz. of plain water with no leaks and no squeeze out at all. Believe me folks, that's way more than the average person would drink in that time period. I felt like I was floating away. The rate of absorbency is also good, but like any diaper, numerous small wettings are WAY better than big floods. Don't try to hold your bladder!
BULK:
This is a pretty bulky diaper, especially when wet. It seems to me that it's just a tiny bit thinner than the Abena X-plus when dry, but definitely gets thicker than the Abena when wet.
WICKING:
This is another stand-out area for the 24/7. I'm not sure how much of the wicking performance was assisted by the booster, but during almost every change this week my diapers were wet from front edge to back edge. What that really means is that you get more effective capacity because the wetness gets pulled away from your heaviest wetting spot. This performance is closely tied to our next category...
CLUMPING:
Another stand-out area for the 24/7. I don't know about you folks, but it seems that the Abenas I've been getting for the last year or so have more clumping problems than I remember from the past. I don't know if they changed the construction or what, but I've been disappointed. The Dry 24/7s have had NOTICEABLY less clumping than any other diaper I've ever worn. Hats-off to these guys in this regard. The longer the padding stays intact, the longer you can wear. This can also be affected by how much walking you do in your diaper. While I didn't do a ton of walking, I probably did an average amount, and these diapers held up very well.
TAPES:
Okay, there's no perfect diaper, and here's the real Achilles Heal for these. The tapes stink. They have the exact same tapes as the Abena X-Pluses (blue grounding tape with clear outer tape), but they are smaller. If you think you have problems with Abena's tapes, watch out. Wearing plastic pants over the diapers helps some, as does wearing pantyhose ( ๐) or other form-fitting garments. I had tape failures on both of the first two diapers I wore. On one the tape itself physically broke in half, and on the other I had the tape pull the plastic off on the diaper. Not good. However, besides the plastic pants, this problem was also mostly alleviated by taping just a little bit looser than I normally do. The diapers absorb so well and so quickly that I didn't experience any overflow leaks as I was wetting.
APPEARANCE:
Diapers are completely white with the aforementioned blue grounding tapes. Whether or not you like that is up to your personal taste.
NOISE:
All in all I would describe these as a pretty quiet diaper. Pretty much the same as the Abenas, quieter than your average store brand.
COST:
The cost of the Dry 24/7s is comparable to other premium diapers on the market. However, I would say that due to the amount they hold and their great ability to stay together, you will get much longer term wear out of these than many other brands. Considering that, these diapers are a bargain. Also, when ordering by the case they are a little more convenient since they come 72 to a case instead of 36 like the X-Pluses. Shipping is still free on cases at XP Medical, and I usually get my diapers either 2 or 3 days after my order. Great service!
FINAL IMPRESSIONS:
In the last week I've gone through my first pack of Dry 24/7s (18 diapers). That's a very respectable 3 diapers per day. Two will get me through all of my waking hours no problem, and one at night. I LOVE THESE DIAPERS!! I have been truly converted. If anyone has questions about these diapers that I haven't answered here, let me know! I'll do my best to answer them.
Happy diapering!
