@esaterman , answers to your questions:
‘First I don't understand why there was three exams of boys every two years from 14 to 18 age ‘
The first one at 14 it was a formal transfer of boys from paediatricians to adult polyclinics. Because in Soviet Union every boy was considered as a potential soldier whose health in that capacity was crucial for the state, the process of transferring of boys to adult doctors was under control of military authorities. Should any health problems been detected, the boy would be sent to hospitals to tackle them so that by the age of 18 they would be healthy enough to serve in the army. If the problem was severe enough and untreatable, then the boy would be written off from military register. There were strict regulations with a long list of medical conditions allowing or disallowing military service.
Second, at 16, was a formal assignment of a boy to a prospective military speciality. The boys undergo med exam and a set of tests and on the basis of their health, physic and intellectual capacity they were assigned to certain specialities which they would do once the time of military service has come.
Third at 18 was an actual formal exam before drafting to the army, last assessment.
‘Secondly you do not say if the exams were different in the way they were performed’
All exams whether at 14 or 16 or 18 were equally thorough examinations done by the same doctors. Now military draft commissions have their own doctors employed by the commissions. In those times when I was a boy it wasn’t the case. District hospitals and polyclinics temporarily redeployed doctors and nurses to work in military draft commissions for a short period of time twice per year. They worked hard to exam hundreds or even thousands of draftees and younger boys. They tried to organise the process in a smooth way, so that for example on a particular day they examine 14 year olds only etc. but sometimes it was not possible so that a mixture of younger and older boys presented on one day. Also sometimes even preteen boys, who were going to study in cadet schools, were there to be examined on the day with older boys.
‘Were you summoned during a school day …. after the examination, did some teachers ask at you how the physical examination was conducted ? did the girls classmates if your school was mixed asked at you also to relate your examination and did they tease at you about your nudity in group ?’
Yes, it was like that. We were officially missing a school day and everyone knew for what reason. The teachers would start talk about that well in advance. The girls would be smiling when hearing that news. Everyone knew that the boys there would be in nude and that’s why the girls were quite excited. On the next day the boys would be annoyed by questions how did it go. Moreover, among the medical personnel there always would be mothers of some schoolmates including the girls and we, boys, felt especially embarrassed to be presenting to them in nude.
‘I am wondering also if you were left alone without supervision even at 14 or 16 age to go from one station to an other or if there was some nurses to supervise you or non commisioners officers who were coming at the hospital with you that day ?’
On the day there was a huge number of boys. We were waiting in the downstairs hall. A military official would call 50-60 boys initially and take them upstairs for exam and then from time to time they would come and take each time 10-15 boys for exam. Upstairs we were told to strip naked, although there was need to tell us as we already saw that all the boys there were naked. Then we were supposed to go from station to station with different specialists in no particular order. After going through all stations-specialists, we presented to the commission. The commission included officials not necessarily medics. They made formal decisions on your military prospects.
‘At the day you were summoned, did there was other patients present who could see you undressed and waiting or walking ?’
This was done at military draft commission facilities. If they had not enough space, then it was organised at some other venues, like a local college for example.
‘or female members of the administrative staff of the hospital like secretaries? Did they were involved in your exam to check or fill papers while you were undressed ?
There were some clerical staff, but they were working downstairs and they didnt see us naked.
