when there was still a compulsory military service in France, there was women hired as military doctors in pre-induction military centers and after in barracks during military service, only in the more recent times after the 70's, before these years it was very seldom to be examined by a woman military doctor. After it was true that there was more and more women hired in the medical field in the army, but the nudity was no more the common rule during all exams, even if it lasted required for exams one by one in front of a doctor since there was always a serious inspection of genitals, palpation of balls , hernia test, inspection of penis with pulling back the foreskin, and a visual inspection of the anus area for a check for hemorrhoids, rashes or any other sign of ill health, and sometimes even a finger inserted in the rectum for a check prostate.
I have never heard about it when there was still a physical examination of a group of draftees all stark naked waiting their turn to be examined by the doctor in a huge room of the city hall in front of the dozen members of the draft board commission who could see all their exams in the nude frontally and by back, and even ask to each of them to come in front of them or to walk past to them to check them from head to toes frontally and by back from a more short distance, or even to ask them to turn over, to bend over and touch ankles ( it happened to me with men members of the commission !) and so on .. but if there was no women doctors, there could be seldomly one or two women among the members of the draft commisssion as local representatives of towns, and the nudity rule in group was nevertheless applied, it did not happen to me when I had that degrading and embarrassing exam in the first middle of the 60's, but I have had some relations by friends who had been summoned in a other town than me for their report in front of the draft board commission, and they had been examined in front and under the eyes of one woman who was mayor of a city and sitting among the members of the commission.
After I have had thorough physical examinations at the pre-induction military center like every draftee, even three times because I had been postponed for fitness to military service two times, it was each year an akward physical examination with a long time of total nudity required, no privacy at all, no respect of dignity, and a lot of non commisioners officers to supervise us, but at that time they were all men and there was no exposure to female secretaries nor to a lot of female nurses, but if it was true, it seemed that it changed some years later in the 70's, at least for the female nurses who could be numerous to take in charge some exams like urine and blood test, eyes tests, weigh ins and check of height or other measurements all performed on naked draftees of 18 age or a few years older, certainly always in the nude for all exams like before, I don't know if it was true but I presume that it was, there was no reason to doubt about it since women were taken much more jobs initially devoted to men, the only male environment at the army was seriously questioned.
As regards the presence of women doctors at barracks, it was an event at my time, I remember that there was an article on a news paper for the first female military doctor assigned at barracks because it meaned that she was in charge of the first physical examination of new inductees at their arrival at barracks to do their military service, so she was asked by the journalist how she would do with the military use about nudity, if she would introduce some changes in the lack of privacy of the inductees during exams, and she had answerd that she would change nothing, that she would act exactly like a man military doctor, that if the nudity in group was required by the army, it was not without good reasons, and therefore she would proceed her physical examinations in that way because she might respect the traditions of the army.
At that time there was already some women military doctors but they were always assigned to military hospitals, not at barracks , it was an event because it was new and unexpected by inductees.
Some years ago it might have becomen more common, I presume that during some years, nothing changed and the inductees were stark naked in corridors and for exams at their first thorough physical examination like it was before during so much years, but as everybody knows, there was changes more recently, even before the end of military service, there was more respect of dignity and privacy of inducteees at physical examinations, either at the pre-induction military centers before induction, or at barracks after induction.
