@DrPatient
Yea. Looking at that other thread it is significantly different.
Yes it is different contextually & the reason why it was not merged
Now reflecting back to say the late1960's ,70's & maybe some 80's material, there were a number of artists / bands that delved into the 'dark side' musically ... some also practiced what they preached !!!
I haven't the time on my hands to review everything but some names I recall from an artistic perspective are :
Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa & The Mother's of Invention, Alice Cooper, The New York Dolls, Lou Reed / Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Saints Row, Alice In Chains, The Dead Kennedy's & London After Midnight ... to name some
Others spasmodically known to turn out "deep /dark" music ... Hole Band, Nirvana, The Banshees, Marc Bolan / T Rex ? ... Australia's The Angels, Nick Cave & Rose Tattoo could be pretty dark
Trivia :
The Velvet Underground title was derived from a book about sadomasochism ... Fact
.
https://youtu.be/WJxoV5O8HUU ... Stevies Spanking - Frank Zappa & The Mothers ... the lyrics are spot on
The Whipping Post (written by the Allman Brothers) as already mentioned is about a person who repeatedly sees his ex lover & is reminded time after time of the feelings felt shared over lost love .... little to do with BDSM per se
