My exam today
Hi everyone 😃 I've taken over a different thread here to write down some of my recent gyn experiences, and it seemed that a bunch of you enjoyed it so I've decided to dedicate a new thread to todays exam.
So a bit of background: I decided to go off the pill after about 8 years this past June, and then went to see a gyn when my period didn't come back/ I was experiencing a very intense surge in libido (which I didn't have the guts to ask him about). So this was a new gyn who I saw in August, and he sent me to get a TVU at a different facility and put me on natural progesterone pills for a week to get a period. I've written about the TVU experience elsewhere here. At the first appointment he also recommended better birth control than condoms and suggested a diaphragm but said he doesn't have enough sizes at the moment and that at the follow up we can do a fitting as well.
Well, today was the follow up. I came in and sat down, handed him the imaging report from the TVU. He said it all looked normal, with some possibility of PCOS which would explain the period not coming back. He asked about the progesterone and I said it had worked but I haven't gotten a period since in these two months. He explained that it isn't indicative of fertility at the moment but that I still should get more periods because that decreases my risk of cancer later in life, so he recommends taking progesterone pills every month to bring on a bleed. We then moved on to discussing contraceptives and I reminded him of the plan for a fitting, he said he only has one size on hand but said it's worth trying. He asked me if I needed to use a toilet and I said no. He guided me to the exam table behind a curtained area and handed me a sheet, and then told me to remove my pants and place the drape over myself and tell him when I'm ready, and then he closed the curtain. There was no chair or anything, so I removed my jeans and underwear and folded them up and placed them on the exam table next to me and sat down. The table was more of a chair with built in stirrups but I felt like placing my feet in already would be over-enthusiastic, so I just sat on the edge of the chair and told him I'm ready. He told me to put me feet up into the rests and I did, bringing my knees as close together as possible. “Okay now open your legs real wide” (I was a bit surprised at the phrasing) and then he told me to scoot down further. Then he proceeded to elevate the table incredibly high, to reach almost his eye-level standing, he didn't use a stool at all during the exam. It was such a weird feeling being elevated with my legs completely spread. While I was already totally exposed and open he went to check the diaphragm and then brought it over and explained how it's used, using his hand to demonstrate. Then he put some lube on it, told me to “just relax” and placed it at my entrance at which I jumped a bit, and then he said “don't jump! that doesn't help me if you jump” and then inserted it. He told me I was clenching a bit so I tried to focus on relaxing my muscles which worked I think but after it was placed he inserted two fingers to check the placement and pushed really hard which hurt a bit, so I had to try a bit harder to relax. he then removed it and told me I'm lucky it's a perfect fit, so we have my size. He then said I can get dressed.
I did, and sat back down near the desk. we discussed contraception a bit more and decided in the end to go with the vaginal ring, instead of progesterone+ diaphragm as that defeats the purpose of non-hormonal anyways.
And then I headed straight to Uni for classes. Hope this is interesting and not just me oversharing 😃
