For males with female providers and female chaperones, how common is it for the chaperone to watch the genital exam? I had an interesting experience today and am curious what real nurses/chaperones/medical pros think.
Every year my NP brings a chaperone in for the genital exam, who sits off to the side seemingly uninterested with maybe the occasional glimpse. Every time the same thing happens to me: I get nervous and experience major shrinkage. I'm a shower so my penis hangs about 6 inches. But as the exam proceeds, I rapidly shrink to about an inch.
This time, as the NP entered the room with the same chaperone as usual, the chaperone murmured something and they excused themselves for a minute. The NP came back with a different chaperone, a receptionist who I had been having a nice chat with and joking earlier. The NP asked "do you mind if Lxxx watches?" I said no of course, and we laughed.
Then Lxxx stood next to the doctor and literally watched the entire exam with her eyes focused on my penis except for occasional glances up at me. The NP took longer than usual and even apologized for "how cold it is in here." I felt like this was an obvious reference to my shrinkage and she was trying to be reassuring although maybe a bit having a joke. When she asked if Lxxx could watch, I assumed she was talking about having a new chaperone present. But I guess she literally meant watch. Can't help but feel that the chaperones and NP had discussed my shrinkage amongst themselves, and considered it an interesting thing to watch. I guess it is, so I don't really mind, just a bit funny. When I left later the receptionist gave me a really big smile.
