Men, chaperone watching or not?

I have mostly women doctors. Two of them use chaperones, the others do not. The only time the chaoerone was clearly watching was if they were a medical student.

To the OP, I'm a nurse and IMO the nursing staff did discuss your penis and found it amusing. I frequently chaperone genital exams and generally don't watch very closely. However if it's an attractive younger male I am more likely to pay attention. Most penises are average and I think nothing of them. However if you have an abnormally large or small penis, there's a good chance it may come up in conversation between the nursing staff during a long working day. A 6 inch flaccid penis is abnormally large, and 1 inch is abnormally small. A patient who shrunk from 6 inches to 1 inch during the exam would be a guaranteed topic of conversation around the office, tbh. That's one exam we would all be eager to be assigned to!

The only time there was a chaperone, as opposed to a nurse who helped with an exam, was when I went to a clinic with rectal pain. The doctor was female and told me she'd need to examine my anus, "so get on the table on your right side and pull your knees up". As I was dropping my pants, a young woman with a clipboard came in and stood by the door, looking straight down at her paperwork not at me. She was in a position directly behind the doctor and so was able to view everything as the doctor turned on the bright exam light and separated my cheeks and examined my anus, and then my rectum with her gloved finger. I wonder if the chaperone looked at her clipboard during the exam or if she watched the doctor examine me. She never said a word and as I got off the table she left.

I have a new female GP and she had a scribe in the room for medical history but examined me alone, including genital and rectal/ prostate exams.

My last GP was also female and did it all solo, but hadn’t examined genitals or rectum/prostate.

My current dermatologist was an interesting experience on my recent visit. She had 2 medical scribes who were behind the curtain as she asked questions and then examined me (I didn’t see them and they didn’t see me). They left and then a nurse came in to assist with a couple of biopsies. Neither biopsy was in a sensitive space so it was more about assisting than observing (and they were benign).

My last dermatologist (also female) did her exams solo if I remember correctly.

I've only had a nurse in the room during an exam with the doctor once. It was at the dermatologist's office and the doctor was male so I wasn't sure why his nurse was in the room as I had been to another doctor at the same office who didn't have her nurse in the room during the exam. I was in a gown only, no underwear, and got a whole body skin exam. The nurse sat on a stool at a computer the whole time and was turned slightly sideways during the exam so she was watching out of the corner of her eyes rather than turned completely toward or away. Since it was my first time to have anyone else in the room I did feel self conscious about her being there and was surprised that no one had said that she would be there for the exam. She had been the one who had taken me back to the exam room and done the intake part including telling me to strip completely and put on a gown. Then she left and I didn't expect it when she walked back in with the doctor a few minutes later and stayed for the whole thing. Her age made the difference because she looked really young and that made it more awkward.

It's more about the man connected to the penis. If a guy has a small penis but is a big bodybuilder, there's a good chance we'll be talking about him. If an awkward nerdy guy has a big penis, same, that would be more interesting, especially if he starts to get hard.

That's why I say the nurses likely discussed the OP's shrinkage. If a guy is hanging 6 inches flaccid, he's usually confident about it. Someone who experiences extreme shrinkage is usually not confident. So we'd probably be talking about that guy's mind as much as his penis.

Do you notice a patients’s lack of confidence by direct means, or is it inferred from shrinkage? What do you notice about the confidence a male patient exhibits?

My long-time female physician did my genital/rectal exams for years without a chaperone. When she moved to a new clinic I followed her there, and evidently the office protocol at the new place required a chaperone during the GU/rectal exam. The chaperones were always young females (nurses/aides) and none ever watched the procedures. Although I only had a full erection once during these, I was ALWAYS aroused and wet at the urethra, and having two women in the room during the exam heightened the embarrassment (and hence the excitement) even though one of them was not watching. Also, for you and others, in circumstances like the ones in this thread where there has been interaction/flirting with a receptionist and then they are later brought in as a chaperone, do you think those are setups? i.e. Does the receptionist ask if she can be brought in to check the guy out, or perhaps does the nurse/doctor ever bring in a chaperone because they know she'd like to check out the guy, or even sometimes bring a second person in because they know the guy has a big dick, or they think it will be fun to embarass the guy if he has a small dick, etc?

Do you and the others ever mention a man’s circumcision status?

When I need an examination or care I try for a female doctor or NP. Having a second woman in the room is a bonus for me. Some of the doctors have had assistant in to take notes. Some of the assistants are looking, some not. None of the doctors referred the assistant as a chaperone. I had a rectal where the assistant was helping, so she was positioned next to the doctor, and held one cheek, then wiped the lube off.

I never even heard of “chaperones” until the day my female NP brought one in completely unannounced. I was seeing her for a swelling I’d just discovered on one of my testicles, and was already a little self-conscious about being examined by a woman who I found attractive. She asked me a couple of questions, then handed me a cloth (which I later learned is called a drape), and said I should cover myself with it after I pulled down my pants and underwear. She left while I undressed, then sat down on the edge of the examining table as she had instructed me to. I was so clueless, I thought maybe she was going to examine me under the drape. Then the door opened and she came back in, with a female nurse right behind her, the one who had done my intake vitals. No introduction, no explanation. The two of them walked around the table so they were standing on either side of me. The NP told me to lie down, and as soon as I was in position, she pulled the drape all the way off me and I was fully exposed from belly to ankles, lying between these two fully clothed women standing on either side of me, staring down at my crotch. While the NP felt both of my balls the nurse just stood there and watched – didn’t say a word, didn’t make eye contact with me. Nothing. As soon as the NP was finished she turned and left the room. That was the most embarrassed I’ve ever been in my life, but I’ve masturbated to the memory of it many times since.

I have a Male doc and have only had another tech in there once who he was training. Also a male. I would have a problem with a female watching. I have never heard of a Male watching a female so it works both ways for me anyway.

When I saw my doctor for annual physical last week, I first had the nurse do height (actually, she didn't measure me, just asked me what my height is,) weight (only removed shoes,) blood pressure, and temperature orally. Then, she took a gown out of the cabinet, and asked me to get undressed, not specifying how much to take off. She said the doctor would be in soon, drew the curtain, and left.

I undressed completely, and the doctor was prompt, she came in before I quite had the gown on. As I sat on the exam table, she talked with me, asking questions. This was my first physical with this doctor, so she was getting to know me. After checking in my ears, eyes, and lymph nodes she had me lay flat on the exam table, lowered the gown to my waist and ausculated my abdomen. She asked some more questions, then had me stand and I lifted the gown so she could examine my testicles and checked for hernia while we discussed my family history with cancer. Then, she said I could get dressed, she left the room, then returned with some information about following up with a dermatologist.

With both the nurse, then the doctor, I was alone with each in the exam room. No chaperone was offered, and I was fine with that.

IMO no receptionist is going to be requesting to see patients' penises. Most likely after the staff saw the receptionist joking with the OP, there was talk about his penis. Whether at that point she asked to see it or someone else offered I have no idea.

I want to reiterate that most patients are unremarkable and no one discusses them. But for patients at either end of the spectrum, we do sometimes play a game of "guess if it was really big or really small?"

I am conventionally attractive with a nice figure so sometimes I enjoy having extended conversations with certain patients while they are naked. I like to see who will get turned on and start to get hard, and who will become embarrassed and start to shrink.

As long as I have been seeing this doctot, I have always had a chaperone present.

I used to see an attractive, foreign born osteopath for my primary care. She always did genital and rectal exams, which I enjoyed, during my annual physicals. After examining my top half by herself, she would tell me to remove my pants and underwear and sit on the exam table with a paper sheet on my lap. After she left the room, I would undress and I wait with my bare butt on the table until she knocked and entered the room with a female chaperon, usually a young medical assistant.

After examining my feet and legs she would have me stand up in front of her and hand the paper sheet to the chaperone, which she would use to block her view of my anatomy. The last time I saw that doctor, however, I forgot to hand the sheet to the assistant, instead placing it on the exam table. The doctor said nothing and proceeded to examine my lower abdomen, penis, testicles, and scrotum in full view of the chaperone, who appeared to be interested. Then she had me turn around and bend over the exam table. After handing me a tissue to clean off a bit they then left the room and I got dressed. I have a female dermatologist who I have been seeing for years. She is very good and kind of hot. She always has and a young assistant with her, mostly a female but sometimes a male. I've never had the same assistant.

The assistant, likely in her early 20s, didn't say anything but she keenly observed my nakedness. She was positioned in the corner behind the doc but had a perfect view of me and my nakedness. I don't think she's sen that many naked men. The exam lasted about 15 minutes and the assistant did take two pictures where there were areas of concern and that required treatment with a cream. One was in my butt area and the other was in my groin area. So she has a pic of my cock and my butt.

I have a follow up in 1 month to check out how the cream is working.

I recently went to see a new doctor about an issue I was having, my regular doctor wasn't available. The short story is he said he wanted to do a digital rectal exam, I was like ok. He had me lower my tights and underwear to my knees and lean over the table. Then he opened the door and had a female staff member who had to be around my age cone into the room and stand in front of me as he digitally penetrated me. He told me it was policy but it was extremely embarrassing and even more so because his fingers were much larger than my normal doctor. She literally stood in front of me and stared, going back and forth, between me and then what the doctors was doing to me with no real expression.

This has certainly changed in recent times.

Even as recent as the 2000s, I have had genital exams done by women and men GP’s and specialists with no chaperones or even the offer of one. It was very routine, and aside from students and during procedures the doc usually handled things alone.

Now at my GP, a chaperone is almost always present if a genital exam is warranted. My Derm even has me leave my underwear on, and she has a chaperone with her at all times. Usually it’s the same medical assistant who checks me in.

I have never, ever had a chaperone as an adult, no matter the gender of the doctor. As a kid and teenager, we sometimes went to a clinic who required a parent or guardian to be present when clothes were off, but that is all. Never a non-parent chaperone, and never any after age 17.

That is probably so, but it is also intrinsically linked to patients/society becoming more prudish and prone to imaging the worst happening because of patient nudity. Just like the Puritans of old and others of their ilk, they think that people will succumb far too rapidly to 'temptations' of the (naked) flesh and will be unable to resist the opportunities offered.

That is what prudery essentially is. Thinking that members of society cannot resist the sight of a naked body and so must be protected against themselves.

But this probably accurate fear by doctors (in some countries) of being falsely accused, cannot have started without many patients crying wolf or imagining things that simply never happened. One of those collective fears and hysterias that seemingly come out of nowhere and cannot be reasoned away by logical thought.

If a mother can count as a chaperone, then yes, my chaperone carefully watched everything that the doctor was doing to me, including the genital / hernia exams / visual inspection of rectum.

I've always had chaperones for my appointments at the dermatologist's office and at the colon & rectal surgeon's office, those practitioners being female. I've never had a chaperone at the cardiologist's office or the urologist's office or the primary care physician's office, even though some of those practitioners are female and the urology appointments and PCP's appointments often involve genital and rectal exams. Often, maybe a quarter of the time, the primary care physician has a student attending my appointments, and so the student witnesses my genital and rectal exams.

My derm doctor, a very attractive female, works at a university medical school and always has at least two female assistants present during my exam. One types notes and sits on the other side of the room; the other is usually an intern or senior medical student and serves as chaperon. At my last exam the doctor noted one area in my groin area requiring special attention and asked the chaperon to take a look and provide her diagonsis. Interesting having young female eyes staring deeply at my groin and then putting on gloves and touching the area. As I grew hard she slowly stepped back and used some big medical words to provide her "medical opinion". The doctor then stepped forward and took hold of my man parts to explain what she was concerned with. After the exam finished and the two young ladies exited the doctor reassured me that the skin situation was easy to correct with a topical ointment. She then "thanked me" for being a good soldier in her efforts to train the next generation of doctors. I simply told her I was happy to be of assistance.
