@legato345 . Yeah, so many things we went through as kids in our own childhood era certainly would simply not happen nowadays. For school medicals when I was aged 7 - 11, a whole class of boys would be marched down to the school hall. Once there, we stripped down to our vest / pants (some boys had no vest, so just pants for them). We put our clothes under wooden PE benches, which we then sat on. We sat there (reading in silence)until we were called, one by one - alphabetical order, forward to see the doctor (who was behind a screened off area at the far end of the hall). Once examined, we returned to the wooden bench and carried on reading. Everyone sat in their underwear until all of us had been examined. Only then were we allowed to dress and return to class.
All of this stripping off and sitting around in undies was very public. The hall was the school's main thoroughfare - so we were very much on view to, say: whole classes of other children passing through (usually en route to, or returning from, the playground, children / monitors (usually older girls) taking registers, messages etc, clerical / office staff, caretaking staff, delivery people etc., etc. Another case of boys' feelings about modesty regarded as being totally irrelevant (not that we were naked of course) - but we did strip off in a sort of 'public' area and had to sit in our underwear 'on view' for a total of c. 90 minutes or so.
Another part of your post (about having to be weighed in an adjoining room and thus 'parade' in your underwear). There seemed to be a curious 'custom' with school doctors in Nottinghamshire during the 1960s. Presumably it was just to save c.30 seconds or so of time per boy (that could amount to c. 10 mins per class). Although starting off in vest / pants, boys were naked by the end of the examination (genital and anal checks). The doctor would 'dismiss' each boy, simply telling them to pick up their underwear and then dress (underwear only) in the school nurse's area. So...the school nurse and the next boy to be examined would always briefly see you naked (just as I always saw the preceding boy naked when it was my turn to be sent in to see the doctor). Once dressed, it was back out into the main part of the hall and return to sit on the wooden PE bench.
This sort of thing (in my case) also happened whenever I had to see an eminent Paediatrician (twice per year between the ages of 7 and 12) at a main hospital. He had his own consulting room, with its own private waiting area. His patients (boys and girls) were all aged 5 - 12 years. At any one time, there would usually be 3 or 4 children (usually with their mothers) in this small room. There was also a desk (female receptionist and secretary sitting behind it). From time to time, different people would come in......nurses, other doctors, people delivering post, files etc., etc. To save time (I imagine) parents were asked to either undress their children (or get them to undress) - yes down to vest / pants (boys) or vest / knickers (girls). Again, boys were usually naked by the end of their session. As per the school situation, boys were sent out (naked) to get dressed in the small waiting area - where, of course, the rest of their clothes were. When I moaned to my mother that people could see me 'bare' (although, of course, it was very brief!!!) she simply told me off quite sharply and told me 'Don't be so silly! Nobody's bothered...' etc., etc. I should add that girls were not sent out naked...they always emerged wearing their vests / knickers.
