If you’re trying to strech you limits, go slow and be careful.
When I was growing up in the nineteenth fifties, my siblings and I spent a lot of time at our grandmothers during summer vacation. She was a retired Registered Nurse and a firm believer in enemas for kids, teenagers, and adults. Up until the summer I turned nine, we were given a soapy followed by a rinse enema, each consisting of a quart of warm water. That summer, grandma started us on yearly 3H enemas, that continued each year until I was sixteen. The same routine was followed, with a few differences. 1) Instead of an adult rectal nozzle, she used a long colon tube. 2) Instead of a quart of warm water, it was two quarts of warm water. 3) The following evening, we started a daily quart and a half quart rinse enema for a week. However, instead of the adult rectal nozzle, she told the girls to use a long-curved douche nozzle and increased volume going forward for routine enemas.
At our grandmothers, grandma handed 3H enemas, and our aunts handed routine enemas. Mom didn’t give us enemas at grandmas; she only gave us enemas at home.
Over the next year, during routine one and a half quart enemas from mom or our aunts. Once we’d received the soapy enema, they push our limits occasionally, during the rinse enema by at least a pint or two. This continued until the next summer, when I turned ten. That summer, I didn’t have any trouble taking a two-quart soapy or rinse 3H enema. I also, didn’t have any trouble with the daily two-quart rinse enemas using a long-curved douche nozzle afterwards for a week.
The 3H enema, the summer I turned nine, was prompted by mom complaining that we had been getting constipated far too often that spring. Resulting in her giving us enemas once or twice a week, instead of the usual twice a month.
After grandmas 3H enema, and the daily rinse enemas for a week, it cured our increased constipation issues. Returning to our normal twice a month. Was it the 3H enema or increased volume, is hard to say. But what I suspect, it was a combination of three different things. First, the 3H enema. Second, the increased volume. Third, a week of larger than normal daily rinse enemas afterwards expanding our colon.
