Embarrasment and shame

In a lot of the stories I've read so far, embarrassment, shame or feeling humiliated adds to the excitement. Can you describe if these emotions are 'just' incited for being exposed and in a submissive physical and mental state or is there anything else involved e.g. worrying about physical appearance?

There is an expression that states that beautiful people with perfect bodies aren't naked even if they are. Apart of the 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' argument, who ever is perfect? Even supermodels have cellulite or a rash from shaving right? -just say yes or I'll never chat with you again 😁

For me, the embarrassment and humiliation is really because of the examination itself -- the idea that some stranger is looking at and touching every intimate part of your body; the loss of control over your own body because someone else is in charge of the exam; that a nurse or chaperon may also be in the room watching; that you are asked to get into embarrassing positions while unclothed. I've never really thought about any embarrassment or humiliation over the appearance of my own body. Great question though.

My greatest embarrassment was having to pull everything down and bend over receptionists' laps for injections, especially in adolescence. I was much more embarrassed at the humiliation of the girl watching me get a shot in my bare bottom that I was about the frontal nude I exposed before bending across her lap. In retrospect, I think that the embarrassment might have been intentional to take my mind off the shot. If so, it worked because my fear was never of the shot itself, just how I had to get it.

For me humiliation would be much worse then any shot. But that's me 😃

For me, it was definitely the humiliation. I deemed injections in the bottom childish, so I was ashamed for the receptionist even to know that I was getting a shot back there, to say nothing of her actually watching it happen.

How interesting that humiliation turns into exhilaration later in life! I wonder if exhibitionists experience less shame than non exhibitionists? I don't necessarily think exhibitionist get excited because they're ashamed by what's going on as they're being watched. What do you think?

Interesting thought. For me it is rather fear turning to fetish rather than humiliation to exhilaration. I now enjoy getting buttock injections from pretty nurses but it still embarrasses me, although I also enjoy the embarrassment - particularly if the receptionist knows about my shots back there or is present to watch. I don't think I have ever been an exhibitionist because when I was afraid of the experience the receptionist saw a lot more than my bare bottom when my pants came down before bending over her lap, whereas now that I enjoy it, the nurse usually pulls down my pants from behind.

Some experiences can be embarrassing. I think embarrasment, shame and pain are exciting.

I agree that the embarassment and humiliation is of being exposed; but it also includes the loss of control. Others being in the room and witnessing the event is also more of that humiliation and makes it more exciting.

Embarrasment is key ingredient and a common thread in most peoples medfet regardless of giving or receiving.

The embarrassment comes for me when I have to show my body, as my education was very puritan (actually catholic) and I grew up thinking that everything connected with nudity is bad and sinful. But, additionally, it is the feeling of inferiority you have when you are undressed in front of a dressed person, it makes you feel vulnerable. And when a doctor has a nurse with him or her, I feel even worse, as I have 2 people watching me; and while the doctor is donfg something the nurse is just watching, which makes the situation worse.

For me embarrassment and humiliation is not part of the thrill at all. Being exposed and naked yes and being totally in the hands of the doctor yes but I'd much rather like it if the doctor explains it is all natural and nothing to be afraid of.

It is necesary to distinguish a real exam from a play one.

The real exam rules are done mainly by the general custom practice and partly by the doctor's habits, so the patient is usually minimum degree of undressing known. E.g. the patient is dressed when the doctor or nurse is taking his/her medical history. Then he/she is asked to strip to the underwear and scaling, measuring and main part of the exam follow.

If the doctor is to examine the breasts or genitalia, he/she ask the patient to remove the appropriate part of his/her underwear (if any gown is not used). Real examining in nude is not generally usual - except babies, soldiers, prisoners etc.

The play exam should be done under the scenario agreed by both the doctor and the patient.

So, for example, the patient is to be completely undressed after coming in the exam room etc. The play is one of the D/s relationships and the sexual arousing is usually the main reason for it.

Irrespective of the fact whether the exam is a real or a play one, you have to appreciate that the nude patient is more communicative and usualy reveals things he/she would not tell being dressed. That is one of the reasons why soldiers, prisoners etc. are usually examined in nude inclusive taking their medical history.

I agree Fugitiva - the embarrassment factor, though often unavoidable to some degree, does nothing for me. But what is far worse, it could ruin the play exam if it becomes overwhelming. Humiliation/shame would be completely out of bounds.

Now, "being totally in the hands of the doctor...nothing to be afraid of." - is music to my ears!

It definitely depends on the patient. Some enjoy giving up control and don't enjoy any embarrassment. Others want to know exactly what will happen and have input on what will be done to them (retaining some control) while reveling in the embarrassment. Some enjoy both.

(Of course, a safeword is always a good idea during any sort of play!)

My most embarrassing medical moment happened about 20 years ago when I had to have a myelogram to check for a ruptured disc in my back. Just before the procedure I had invited 4 or 5 nursing students who had never seen the procedure to observe mine so that they could better answer their patients questions about what to expect. The doctor tells the student nurses to stand at the foot of the table that I am laying on. During the procedure I am lying flat on my stomach on a table and a dye is injected in my back and the table is then tilted head down. Then the table is tilted feet down. At that time the pajama pants that I am wearing slide all the way down to my feet exposing everything to these much younger ladies. The doctor is working away on my back and I am left like this for what seems like a long time before the tables tilts back the other way and I can pull the pants back up. Since then I have always left modesty outside the door in any medical situation.

I find this web site so great because so many people talk about the embaressing/humiliation thing - and how good it feels - how much we want to be embaressed. So many other Fetish sites think humiliation is about exploitation - but that's not what I want. The humiliation/exposure I crave is very subtle - which is why I think we like medfet - bc the embaressing nature of things is downplayed, which makes it burn right under your skin.

For me, I find it thrilling yet exposing that someone is looking at a part of me (internally and externally) that is considered private.

I agree with Susie .. very subtle. I find the positioning embarrassing in certain situations but I do often think about "how do I look?" which is a stupid thought to have. I'm talking about play situations.

The embarrassment does it for me. I worry what they're thinking about my body, comparing it to others. Also it's about losing control and having hands and fingers touching my body parts and being inside me and looking me over inside and out.

I agree with Susie that a key factor in the embarassment is that the doctor downplays it. Because the doctor goes to such great lengths to make the situation de-personalized. The very fact that your most personal and private areas of your body are exposed while being conditioned to think that you are "just like everybody else" creates a situation that is primed for embarassment. It also naturally leads to thoughts about how you compare/contrast with all of the other patients.

To me if there isn't a significant degree of embarrassment involved it isn't really MedFet....or at least not any form I'm interested in 😉.

No question, shame and humiliation played a major role in the genesis of my fetish. Obviously, there has to be a pre-existing sensitivity that these emotions provoke, but I do believe the experience of my pediatrician's receptionist (who was a family friend) telling my mother in front of the whole waiting room that the shot I needed to get had to go in my rear end (as she patted her own for emphasis) was a crucial factor. I still smart at the memory of my younger sister laughing and saying, "Did you hear? You're getting a shot in your tushie!"

I'd like to add that for some of us it's not only embarrassment that does it, it's embarrassment and humiliation that you have to submit to because it's for your own good!

Embarrassment and humiliation perhaps.. I don't think shame should ever be a part of it.

Sounds like everyone has hit the key points!

The embarrassment factor is huge for me. To be exposed and vulnerable in front of strangers is terribly humiliating. Then to be displayed and probed in plain view, well that's overpowering. To get aroused during an exam, well that would be about as embarrassing as it gets.
