I really can`t understand why an adult person with a normal sexual life would feel a need to measure it`s genitals - sorry but we are no more boys just in the middle of puberty... Mine is just right for me and for my life partner, and also just right for my ex-partners and play partners - everything else doesn`t really matters I think.

The thing of it is, the metric system is just as absurd as the English system. People love the nice order of magnitude multipliers, but they are need not be unique to the metric system. I worked in engineering for many years and we commonly used terms like KIPS, short for Kilo Pounds.

Since 1798 the meter for example has been redefined 5 times and is still nothing you can easily relate to with your body. The inch also has a colorful past, and sadly since 1959 has been defined by it's fraction of a meter. How insulting to the poor inch! All that being said, I can measure an inch pretty damn close with the first joint of my index finger. My size 10 boot is near exactly a foot, and a comfortable stride is just about a perfect yard. I have to say that I can relate much more comfortably to english units in lots of everyday activities.

The gram is at least as strange. It used to be the si unit of mass, but that was changed to the kilogram. The kilogram standard , the IPK, is weight of a hunk of metal hidden away in a bunker, or one of it's sisters. There are proposals out for a standard that can be reproduced without the original but they have not materialized yet. Most of the kids I know understand grams, but only because the price of ounces is out of their reach.

There are places where the metric system makes sense and is much easier, but that is not universal. I think both systems have their place. You just have to be more careful than NASA if you use both.

Since everyone's body is totally different on a scale that can be measured in basic metric units, what would ever be the purpose of using a system based on body dimensions? And whose body would be chosen? And when would it be measured? In their prime? After death?

Besides, show me anyone who can mentally figure out feet into miles (no calculators, that is cheating) and you might have a prodigy, one in a million? Or whatever. In any case, it's not for normal people.

@agracier I don't agree that everybody body is totally different. There is a bell curve and perhaps a bit of regional difference in normality, but I contend there is a good degree of similarity. As one of your feet not very near an english foot or one of your strides very near an english yard? If I pace out meters I walk about 4 paces and that is a a bit over 3 meters. Yards I can get really close. Meters I can't.

Anyway, I was taught both systems comprehensively, the inches, miles ounces thing and afterwards the metric system and hands down, no contest, metric is so utterly easy and simple. Even me, math dunce, can do the computations in my head if need be. Feet to miles and so on I couldn't even do on paper anymore, not if my life depended on it I fear.

And bodies similar? Wow, I am 1.77m and there are friends I have to look up to to talk to their faces and others whom I can kiss the top of their heads without having to face down.

And hands! Some are like spiders, so long and spindly - pianists by genetics you'd think, others so stubby and short. The same goes for the length of their strides. Some I can't keep up with because they are so tall and hence have long strides.

And let's not get started over the need for fractions: 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 of an inch and how to add things like 3/8 and 1/2 and 17/32 of inches? How utterly complicated.

I think it is ok when you think that 2 stone = 28 pounds, 4 stone = 56 pounds, 8 stone = 112 pounds, 16 stone = 224 pounds though. You have just got to add them up and you can work out the answer.
