The Most Embarrassing Day Ever
Part 1
Beep. Beep. Beep. I stretch and yawn as I reach over to turn off my alarm clock. I can’t believe it’s already time to get up. Of course, it didn’t help that I was up all night worrying about my upcoming doctors appointment. Now that I’m awake the butterflies in my stomach return, reminding me about how nervous I am. I’ve always hated having to go the doctor, but especially when I need a complete physical. It wouldn’t be so bad if they had an opening for sometime in the morning, but no, they can’t fit me in until 2:00 which means I have to go to work part of the day, and my nerves will just keep getting worse and worse. Oh well, thinking about it isn’t going to change anything. I get up and go about my morning routine. Even though I don’t really feel like eating I figure I better eat something. I figure I’ll just eat a breakfast bar while I’m heading out the door. I open my cabinet and go to reach for the box, and realize it’s not there. That’s when I remember I had a friend over a couple days ago, and I bet she ate the last one. Great, guess I’ll just have to run to the store before work. I pull into the parking lot and park my car. I quickly go to the isle that my cereal bars are down and find them. Seriously, can my day get any worse. Here I am five foot nothing, and my bars are on the very top shelf. I figure if I stand on my tippy toes and stretch I might be able to reach them. So here I am stretching and groaning trying to reach my breakfast, and the same time I hear a deep voice say “Here let me help you with that mam.” I feel a stranger right beside me, and reach up and grab the box for me. I take the box from him and look up to say “Thank you,” but when I do, I realize I’m staring at the most gorgeous guy I’ve ever seen. He’s about 6’2, trim but not skinny, unlike me, and kind of looks like he belongs in a rock band, with his tattoos peeking out from under the sleeves of his tight, black t-shirt. I’d say he’s probably late twenties early thirties, which is perfect for me since I’m 23. After going all googly-eyed at him, I finally manage to tell him thank you. “No problem,” He says in a deep sexy voice. Since I’m in a hurry, I just smile at him, and run along. I’m busy looking at all the registers trying to figure out which one will be the quickest, but clumsy me isn’t watching where she’s going, and I slip in a puddle of water, and land on my backside pretty hard. Even though it hurt pretty badly, it didn’t hurt as bad as my pride, and my pride hurt even worse when I noticed someone giving me their hand to help me up, and realize it was the sexy guy who got my cereal bars for me. I could have died. I take his hand and he helps me up. “Are you ok there, darling?” “Yeah, I’m fine. Just a little bruised, but I’ll be ok. Thank you. It’s like you keep coming to my rescue.” “You’re welcome. I love helping pretty girls like you. What’s your name? ” I couldn’t help but think He thinks I’m pretty? Even with my face as red as a fire truck? And God he has a gorgeous smile. “Umm, I’m Nicole.” “Well, Nicole it’s nice to meet you. I’m Travis.” We both walk up to a register and wait in line. While we’re standing there, we kind of make small talk and flirt. Not only is he gorgeous, but he’s really funny and seems educated. I actually think we might have a connection, but it’s probably just wishful thinking. Before he walks off he turns to me and says, “I know it’s kind of soon, and we don’t really know each other, but I would like to get to know you better. Would it be ok if I took you out on a date sometime?” I am completely shocked and ecstatic at the same time, but somehow I manage to keep my cool. I smile and say, “Sure, I’d like that very much. Here’s my number, and you can give me a call and we can figure something out.” He put my number in his phone and we say good-bye, and head our separate ways. With all the excitement I almost forgot all about being nervous about my doctors appointment. Almost anyway. Luckily, work went by pretty fast, and before I knew it, it was time to leave for my appointment. The whole drive there I couldn’t help but worry and stress about it. I don’t know what the big deal is, I mean my doctor is a woman, she has the same exact parts that I do, but still. I pull into the parking lot, take a few deep breaths. I walk into the door, and luckily they are not too busy. I walk up to the sweet but elderly receptionist and sign in. When she looks to see which doctor I have, she looks at me and says, “I’m sorry doctor Spencer had a family emergency, and had to move back to Georgia, so she no longer works here. Didn’t one of the other receptionists call and let you know?” “No, she didn’t.” “I’m very sorry about that. Dr. Spencer has a very nice replacement doctor. Would you like to see him?” Did she just say him? Him? As in a male doctor, who even though he sees the female anatomy everyday, does not have the same parts, therefore, he doesn’t have any idea how uncomfortable it is having hard, cold, metal objects stuck up you, and forcing a very sensitive area open? But, I’m here anyway and I really don’t want to have to go through everything to try to find another female doctor, and make another appointment, and worry all day about it. I better go ahead and get it over with. “Sure, I guess I’ll just see him. Thank you.” “Ok, go ahead and have a seat and fill out these forms for me. He prefers to call his patients back on his own and do all the things the nurses usually do, So he’ll be out it a few minutes.” “So he doesn’t have a nurse? Why doesn’t he have nurses?” “ He says it gives him more of a perspective about how the patient is really feeling, since they don’t have the time to sit back there and think about what kind of fibs to tell the doctor. He also says it helps put the patient at ease, and they don’t have to wait as much. I’ve seen him personally and I have to say he’s a lot friendlier and gentler than most of the nurses I’ve seen.” Great, just great! I think to myself. When I finish filling out the paper work I give it to the receptionist, and go sit back down. To pass the time I decide to replay in my head the embarrassing but wonderful meeting with Travis. It wasn’t long before the door opened and I hear a deep voice say, “Nicole Sawyer.” Great I’ve been fantasizing about Travis so much, that I’m hearing his voice. I stand up and actually look at the person who called my name, my mouth drops open, and my eyes get really big, it’s nice to see however that my reaction was mirrored on none other than Travis’ face as well. I think we were both in shock, neither of us expecting to see each other the same day. That’s when I realize, the sexiest guy who has ever asked me out on a date will be looking between my legs, and he didn’t even have to buy me dinner first! “Well, Nicole, it’s good to see you again, even though I thought it’d be under different circumstances.” “Yeah, so did I. I had no idea you were a doctor. I figured you worked in a tattoo shop or was in a band or something. Why didn’t you tell me?” “Well actually I am in a band, but being a doctor pays a lot better. You never asked me what I did and I usually don’t just bring it up and flaunt it. I don’t want people, especially potential dates, to talk to me just because of what I do. I want people to like me for me. I work as a doctor but that’s not all that I am.” “That makes sense. Sorry, I was kind of snippy, I’m just really nervous.” “ That’s understandable. Come on back and we’ll get started, and I’ll see if I can ease your nerves some. That is if you still want me to do your exam. If you don’t I’ll understand completely and will still take you out if you still want to go.” “You know what, I’m here. We might as well get this over with. I wasn’t really looking forward to a man examining me, but since I know it’s you, I’m actually a little more at ease.” He holds the door open as I walk through. I follow him down the hallway, and to the exam room. I walk in and he walks in behind me and closes the door. I think to myself, Well here goes nothing!
