It was just before noon when Shirley called Dan’s office and ask for him.

After a couple of minutes Dan came to the phone and said Hi, how are

you. Shirley said I am fine I just wanted to report on Ellen. Well how did

the time go, asked Dan. Shirley said we really need to talk about this in

person. Fine said Dan, can I take you to dinner tonight? I will pick you up

at 6:00 p.m. OK said Shirley. Dan said please wear one of those nice sun

dresses with no underwear. OK said Shirley, see you at 6:00 p.m.

Shirley had her lunch and then cleaned up the medical room. She put the

plastic speculum that she showed Ellen back in the drawer. She could not

use it now that the package was opened, but she thought at some point

she might offer to give it to Ellen. She then showered and got dressed in a

new green sun dress. It was a thinner material than the rest and her

At promptly 6:00 the door bell sounded and it was Dan. He came in and

Ellen to put on a pare of gloves and she did. She then ask Ellen to pick up

the plastic speculum and put some lubricant on the blades. Ellen did and

Shirley said make sure it is lubricated well. Ellen said it is. Shirley said put

some lubricant on my vagina and push it in gently with your finger. Ellen

did as instructed. Shirley said OK, point the handles of the speculum

toward my left side, put the blades at the entrance of my vagina, and

slowly push it into me. Ellen said I am afraid I will hurt you. No you won’t

said Shrley. Ellen slowly and gently pushed the speculum into Shirley until

it was all the way in. Shirley said good job, now rotate the handles until

they are straight down. Ellen did as instructed. Shirley said now slowly

squeeze the handles together and it will open the blades. Ellen again did

as instructed and soon the speculum was fully opened. Shirley said take

the flashlight and look inside my vagina. Ellen did as instructed and said

Wow. Shirley ask her if she sees the cervix at the end. Yes said Ellen and

it has a hole in it. Shirley said yes, that is for two reasons. First it lets the

blood come out during your period. Secondly it lets the sperm enter the

uterus so an egg can be fertilized so you can become pregnant. Would

you like to touch the inside of my vagina. Yes said Ellen. Go ahead said

Shirley, feel the sides and she did. Shirley said do you have any questions

about what you see. No said Ellen. Ok slowly unscrew the knob on the

side and the speculum will collapse. When it is collapses pull it out and

put it in the sink. Ellen did as told.

Now I want you to pick up the metal speculum and put lube on it. When it

is lubed I want you to slide it into my vagina. Ellen did as instructed and

when it was fully in Shirley told her to turn the screw on the side and it will

open. Open it all the way. When it was opened all the way Shirley told

Ellen to once again use the flashlight and look inside. She told Ellen that

this speculum opens the vagina horizontally so you can examine the top

and bottom of the vagina along with the cervix. You can also see my

urethrae. Do you see it? Yes said Ellen. That is where the urine comes

out when you pee. I know said Ellen. Well do you have any questions. No

aid Ellen. Shirley explained that when a doctor is doing the exam he is

carefully looking at the cervix and walls of the vagina for any signs of

infection or lesions. He also will take some samples from the cervix to

check for cancer but we are not going to do that. So unscrew the screw

and pull the speculum out.

When it was out Shirley said only a few more things. Now I want you to

put two fingers in my vagina with your finger tips point up. Push your

fingers in as far as you can. Now with your left hand I want you to feel

above my vulva on the left side. Touch me and I will guide you to the right

spot. When Ellen’s hand was in the right spot Shirley told her to push

down gently and see if she felt anything. Your hand is right above my right

ovary but you might not be able to feel it. It takes some training to find the

ovaries. Now move your hand to just above my vulva and feel for my

uterus. Again you may not be able to find it. Now move your hand up to

the right to feel my left ovary. A trained examiner will be able to find and

feel each of those organs. Now take your fingers out of my vagina and put

on a new glove on your right hand. Lubricate your fingers and put your

longest finger in my vagina and the next one in my rectum. Ellen did that

and soon her fingers were in Shirley’s vagina and rectum at the same time.

She said try to feel the skin between my vagina and rectum. Now take

your fingers out and put another new glove on. Lubricate the largest finger

and put it in my rectum. Push it all the way in and slowly rotate it all he

way around. Feel every part of my rectum. Again a trained examiner

knows what to feel for. But I just want you to see every part of the pelvic

exam. Now take your finger out and throw away the gloves. The exam is

over. Give me a few tissues so I can clean the lube off of my vulva. After

Shirley cleaned herself she once again ask Ellen if she had any questions

and Ellen said no. Do you want to see anything again. No said Ellen.

Shirley said help me get out of the stirrups and soon Shirley was standing

up and walking toward the table with her clothes on it. Shirley stood

facing Ellen as she dressed. Ellen watched her dress. When Shirley was

fully dressed she said let’s go get another cup of tea.

When seated at the table siping their tea Shirley ask what do you think.

Well before I met you and you explained all this to me I would have never

imagined an exam like this existed. I guess I am very naive. Not really

said Shirley. You didn’t have a mother during your teenage years. Most

mothers will tell heir daughters about a pelvic exam and schedule their first

one before 16 years old. Shirley I don’t ever think I can be as casual about

being nude as you are. I am not casual about being nude said Shirley. I

am rarely nude with another woman. I go to the gym once and while and

am nude with women when I shower. But I have never had a woman

present during a breast or pelvic exam before. No woman has every seen

me being examined except a nurse doing her job. Really ask Ellen, then

why did you do it with me. Ellen I told you I want to be your friend. I can’t

imagine your going through puberty without a mother. And I understand

your fear of being nude and having your breasts and vulva examined. So

this was the only way I could think of to help you over come your fear. I

OK ask Shirley. Yes said Ellen. Soon Ellen was standing in jus her panties

and Shirley motioned her to sit on the table. Shirley went through the

breast exam in all three positions and was as gentle and kind as possible

during the exam. When she finished the third position she helped Ellen off

the table and when she was standing Shirley said everything is fine. I

didn’t find any lumps and there was no discharge from either of your

nipples. You can get dressed now. When Ellen was dressed Shirley said

Shirley cleaned up the medical room and called Dan’s office. When he got

on the phone Shirley said I made progress, Ellen allowed me to do her

breast exam today. She said next week she will let me do the pelvic exam.
