Preparing for the second year of Girls Summer Camp

Life seemed too fast for Dr. Beverly Dawson as she was trying to get her life in order for the three month long summer camp assignment. Last summer had been her first duty of this type and she loved the relaxed atmosphere in the back country where most medical problems were just normal young woman type issues. She felt that her weak background in suppositories could be improved and jumped at the chance to take a short course that specialized in that area of medicine.

During the recent two months of intense training, she was introduced to many cutting edge instruments including one of the instructors who actually designed some of the new experimental devices for insertion of the globs of jell. The young male doctor took a liking to the lovely Beverly and allowed her and two other members of the class to visit the nearby manufacturing facility where the cutting edge medical tools were actually made to order. The visit to the manufacturing facility included a good look into the design room where the sketches and drawings of doctors were turned into easy to use mechanical drawings with critical dimensions, surface finishes and materials of construction. A visit to the manufacturing floor where mostly stainless steel, glass and high tech plastics were turned into the cutting edge medical tool parts. All kinds of machine tools and hand tools were in use by several guys and one young lady. Last was the final assembly and finishing room where a few ladies worked to insure the final product was free of imperfections and worked as designed. After the tour, the rather stoic British manager advised that it was often the fresh ideas of the younger doctors that brought to his facility the best improvements in medical instruments. He advised them to document well their ideas and it would be a short time before a preliminary test sample was ready for trials. This bit of wisdom was a landmark moment for Beverly and she was already thinking about a new rectal suppository inserting device like never seen before.

That evening Beverly began sketching out her ideas for the new improved suppository insertion device. She had long felt that a better tool was needed to deal with the larger volume suppositories to allow them to be inserted easier and deeper where the urge to expel them was not near as great for the patients. Within a few evenings of sketching, her various ideas soon began to take on a life of their own. Yes, she could design medical equipment and her design was falling together nicely. The design included a triple injection procedure as she called it. Once the polished stainless steel insertion nozzle was deeply inserted into the anal opening of the patient, a first push on the plunger injected a few ounces of a light gel to lubricate the way for the super sized cool in temperature gel suppository. The second push on the plunger shoved the cold gel lump out of the nozzle deep into the rectum of the patient. A secondary syringe on the double barreled insertion tool was then pushed injecting a rather warm solution of water and a chemical that would cause the suppository to dissolve much faster than normal. This reduced the cold internal feeling and allowed the medication in the suppository to begin acting more rapidly. It was a revolutionary idea that had been devised in her mind as she became far more educated in the use of suppositories.

The next day Beverly shared her sketches with the doctor who took them on the tour of the manufacturing facility. Needless to say he was impressed and urged Beverly to convert the sketches into some high quality engineering drawings. What he did not tell her was that he would like to test the completed instrument on the shapely backside of his best student in years. He also advised Beverly to draw up the suppository mold design for different lengths of suppositories to fit the bore diameter of the insertion tool bore. Easier to change lengths than keep changing bore diameters. Within a week of evenings she had most of the drawings completed and even a mold design for suppositories of three different lengths to suit the needs of the various drugs and patients.

Beverly was pleased with the set of drawings and glad she had taken the many drafting courses a few years earlier. She had put up with taunts from the class full of boys who claimed she did not belong there. Even the teacher was not excited about having a girl in his class. Now she was way ahead of her peers in the medical field and wondering how soon she might present the drawings to the manager of the manufacturing facility. Her doctor friend took one look at the final drawings and knew Beverly was headed in the right direction. Never before had one of his trainees been so capable and had the ability to make such fine drawings. He arranged to another visit to the manufacturing facility the following Monday. Beverly was very excited about the visit to the manufacturing facility and over the weekend, refined some of the drawings.

Monday morning Beverly and her doctor friend departed the training facility early and arrived at the medical manufacturing business right on schedule. The meeting with the manager went well. The manager was impressed with a young lady doctor who had a fertile imagination and could produce drawings almost shop ready which would save much time. Beverly asked how they tested the medical instruments. She was informed that they had a testing room in back where human like bodies or body sections were kept. These almost lifelike dolls were used at first to see if the new instruments would work with the dummy dolls. After that testing, further testing was done by the doctor in their office or a medical model could be arranged for to show up and the doctor would test the instrument in question on the medical model.

The manager then took them through the final assembly room to the final testing room to show off the almost medical office looking facility. The final testing was often being photographed and a lifelike background was important. Often times the final assembly and finish crew members were in the testing room to see how the instrument worked on a real patient and be ready to offer suggestions based on observations of the doctor and response from the patient. Sometimes one of the final assembly ladies would fill in if none of the medical models was available. The desired goal was to achieve the best possible instrument in the shortest amount of lead time in most cases. On the way back through the assembly room, the manager showed the beautiful set of drawings to the ladies in the room and told them this new instrument was soon going to be part of their tasks. Beverly could see the look of interest on the faces of the assembly crew ladies almost as if they wanted to be the test subject for her new design.

On the way out of the facility, Dr. Dawson queried the manager about his background considering the strong British accent. He replied, “I started out fitting scopes to sniper rifles at Holland & Holland in London at the tail end of the war. Next was a couple of years making prosthetic devices for wounded soldiers and victims of the London bombings. After that I took a job in Canada working with the application of plastics to improve medical devices. Then came the offer of managing this facility where cutting edge devices are taken from drawings to working experimental samples and refined as needed. I find this job to be the most interesting and challenging of all. There is seldom a dull moment and doctors like you help to make me enjoy the work here more all of the time.”

With this answer, Dr. Dawson knew she had brought her new medical instrument to the best place possible and could not wait to see the first test version. She asked, “Do you have any idea when the first test instrument will be ready for my examination and testing?”

The manager replied, “It seems rather straight forward in design based on your excellent drawings, I suspect we will have something for evaluation and trials in two or three weeks.”

What Dr. Dawson did not know was that the manager was rather excited to see the new project and had already planned on making sure it was put ahead of other problematic designs then in house. He was rather interested in seeing it being tested on the model patients as one of the perks of the job. He already had two different young ladies in mind for the testing. Both of them were very good at accepting medical instruments in their backsides based on past testing. The two test subjects he had in mind both worked in the assembly room. They had been the subjects for numerous medical instruments of intimate use. Seeing either one of them on the exam table in the testing lab was always a pleasure. Their shapely young bodies were fit for the centerfold of any men's magazine. It was something to look forward to as at least one if not both of them subjected their shapely buttocks to the instrument of Dr. Dawson. He had something to look forward to, that was for sure.
