Aging out with Dad's help..

Exam Day

Tony wheeled his car into the lot and spotted Kim's scooter. Smiling to himself he thought how many of the guys scoffed at Kimmy not really understanding her. She as she put it prefers ball caps to ball gowns but under the a shirts and jeans was one helluva female. He headed toward the building and saw a familiar figure which made him smile.

He hugged her and pulled away as she started to kiss. I'm getting a sore throat.

Ohhhhh no. Me too!

Smiling they laughed together.

Dad's calling his doc. His physical is after school and he's gonna see if they can see me.

Oooooooooooooo pulling him close dropping her hands to his hips... Will Tony need a shot...whispering in his ear....

They shouldered their backpacks and made their way to homeroom with Tony's shorts inexplicably getting just a tad tighter.

Throughout the day that thought stuck in his mind. Until Kimmy had suggested it he hadn't even thought about it but now...

It was 245 and they headed to the parking lot and he watched her climb on her scooter with her long hair falling across her shoulders and out of the helmet. Putting his laptop and backpack in the trunk and hanging his blazer behind the drivers seat he headed toward his dad's office and whatever lay ahead.

Turning left onto the Parkway and picking up the interstate he made his way into Midtown in good time then took Union into downtown catching sight of the Peabody neon and the First Horizon and Ibank towers.

Turning into the parking structure he took the elevator up and Jo smiled and greeted him then waved him on through.

He found his dad leaned back with his headset on talking someone through an issue they were having with some sort of technical object. He heard Got it?! Great! Then his name. Tony!

Smiling at his dad's enthusiasm he smiled. Ya ready?

He sighs smiling yeah! Let's get this done! The layout down there is just beautiful. Grabbing his phone and laptop case he punched a couple buttons and headed for the door. They came up behind Jo who evidently sensed their presence and she smiled. Taking somebody for moral support Mr.G?

Chuckling No no... He's turned 18 and i had him down to meet the doc. But he said his throat's sore so....

Yeah...Might be strep Kimmys getting sore too.

Jo and Dad roll their eyes. C'mon... Bye Jo! I'm on unless I'm ahem busy...

They head down speaking to several people, and finally clear the doors of their building.

Covering the distance in way too short a time they turned onto Court and enteres the 100 plus year old building. Awed by his surroundings Tony followed his dad to the elevator and they rode up to 500.

They rode the vintage look elevator to the top floor and when they exited were faced with a large long stone with a double H logo and under it on a second line HORN & HORN and centered below below PHYSICIANS.

A glass door in a wooden frame showed a nearly empty waiting room save a single guy close to dad's age. They enter and the lady at the front desk looks up smiles and greets his father by name as they spproach.

Dad signed them in and filled the lady in regarding the change with Tony's appointment. He got the requisite pound of paper to complete being told that since he was 18 he could sign and did not hafta show dad anything on the forms unless he wished to do so.

They went to seats opposite the other occupant who was online with his phone and Tony started doing the forms.

Dad looked over...sorta personal?

Nodding, I'll say!

Wait until you hit the gender specific.. It makes you glad you're a guy!

He finally completed the forms and passed them back returning to his seat.

Within a few moments a young woman appearing just a little younger than Tony emerged smiling and her dad smiled and they left chatting softly as they cleared the door. Tony, and unknown to him his dad had the feeling she looked familiar.

In what seemed like five minutes but was only a minute or so they hear Robert and Anrhony Green.

Looking up dad stands and Tony is shocked. In the doorway is a member of St. Pat. He had no idea she was s nurse! Dad smiles and greets her by name.

Well hello Tony! I didn't make the connection until now. Let's get you two back!

She leads them down the hall and Tony observed one door ajar and a guy little older sitting stripped to shorts. Anxiety reaches out and grabs him. Turning a corner they enter a corner room with two tables two lockers and supplies on the counter. Scales in one corner.

I know why you're here...looking at dad and reaching for a urine cup. Why don't you go see the lab and I'll chat with Tony.

Dad takes the hint...and the cup.

Well you sure looked surprised chuckling.

I had no idea what you did! Yeah i was.

So... Sore throat?

Yes mam. Saw Kimmy this morning and she said hers was getting sore too.

You beat. me to the question...i was gonna ask. Empty out your pockets slip your shoes off.and let's get that weight and height.

He sits and works with the shoes. Who did the last exam Tony??

It was about six months ago slipping second shoe off... Dr. Jones at Children's Medical. She slides a basin for him to empty pockets.

Well we'd like to have you long term. We're one of the few offices that will let couples in together. Let's get that weight.

6 1 210...

Alright! Any issues other than the sore throat?

Uh....no mam. Uh....couples?

Yes. Say you and a significant other wanted to come together either for support or a joint exam we would work with you.

Uh...great. That sounds...interesting.

Okay. Slip everything above the waist...clothing wise...off.

He started before he even thought. He quickly had everything except the chain with his mizpah and crucifix.

Dad returned one sleeve rolled down from the blood draw but unbuttoned. Sighs... Usual?

Laura nods. Just the shoes and empty pockets for weight then I'll leave you two and Dr J should be in shortly.

Slipping off the shoes and emptying his pockets he walks over to the scale and steps up.

185..Nice and constant. I'll see you guys later!

She's one of the lay leaders at St. Pat. I had no idea she was a nurse!

I see! Unbuttoning shirt and looking at Tony. Sorry this isn't working out quite as planned.

It's ok dad... I wanted to get this checked out.

The a shirt came off and revealed a well toned and tanned upper body.

Standing he unbuckled unfastens and drops his slacks revealing traditional white briefs. Walking across he opens the locker placing his clothes inside and shuts the door.

Walking to the closest table hopping up and facing Tony, this ought to do for starters. Nervous?

Not really. I'm just in for a sick call. You'll be getting the works, it looks like.

Well, can't let the preventive maintenance go... Smling..Think what would happen if we let the cars...or the house go.

Nodding, Tony smiled and agreed. They heard measured coughing from the next room. Smiling, dad commented they'd be soon. Tony's anxiety raised just a notch but he didn't let it show.

Uh... Do they give a lot of shots?

Not any more than any other clinic that i know of. I'd be surprised if you didn't get one today since you think it may be strep. And its been a while since i got any so... Smiling.

I don't see the guy nurse. He's probably mid 20s.. Neat kid. Good with a needle.

Oh? A guy?

Yeah... A single knock on the door and a tall athletic woman entered. Hey Mr.Green! Tony? I'm Dr. J. Jennifer Horn.

Tony gulped and smiled. Hey it's good to meet you extending his hand. At almost 5 9 and slender with blonde hair and blue eyes she was definitely the polar opposite of what he expected. But dad's respect and acceptance of her was unquestioned.

So... I understand you and a bud may have strep.
