So why didn't the principal smack her mother? I mean, after all, the mother was the one who bought the things in the first place. Since children are supposed to obey parents, they will wear what is given to them. Therefore principals should take up any issues with the parents, not the child.

Reminds me of something from some years ago. I lived in this neighborhood where up the street there lived a woman with a couple high school age kids.

On another forum, there was once a question about Spanish attitudes and how they differ from those of other countries. There were many answers, most quite thoughtful, but one struck me: never judge or mention anything about how women are clothed in public, no matter how little it is. It is nobody's business but their own.

Okay. I could picture this as a role play scenario but seems like it’s unreasonable as a real life thing. I grew up near the beach so maybe that made bare skin seem natural. I went to an extremely religious school where “dress code violations” could get a student spanked before it was outlawed by the state. The girls seemed to get paddled for “short” skirts and dresses. It was carried out by a female for the girls but happened in the male principals office with the same paddle. Even at a young age it seemed off to me.
