Hi...
I am 62 and are semi disabled from a bone disease. I have been inn the er at least 18-20 x over the past decade, had about 10 surgeries in that time....spinal fusions, bone fusions ...arm, leg, due to spontaneous fractures.
anyway, I am still here and haven't had surgery in over a year. retired early though and divorced, living alone. but I am ok.
my contribution here is that I actually got several experiences with enemas at my hospital experience. one was when I went in for extensive testing at mayo clinic. they did a lower gi test and really cleaned me out. had to swallow that nasty stuff you mentioned. but then had a nurse and a tech enter my room, private room, with a clear type enema bag....she said this was ordered and told me it would not be as bad as it looked...lol.
she demonstrated that the nozzle was really a colon tube, and that this was a very large volume enema that would be given to me slowly. but first she said I need to have my lower end emptied....and she quickly gave me a disposable type enema I think.
when I got out of the bathroom, she was gone. the tech said she needed to warm up the solution as it was too cool to administer. I was very nervous waiting.
well when she came back, it was not the clear bag, but a stainless steel enema bucket. she said we needed to get going and asked if I had gone a lot? she asked the tech if he looked....he did not and she was not pleased...I assured her I went.
she said she had to make sue for her report....extremely important that she accurately document everything....talk about anal.
she said she would have re do the first enema.
and I needed to go in the bed pan.
yikes.
so all that happened. and she went back somewhere with the enema and came back like 30 minutes or more later...long time anyway.
so she told me this was a 2.5 liter enema that will take about an hour to administer (her word).
the nozzle was one of those balloon jobs, inside and out....oh god.
well I got me a hospital enema!!!!!!!!!!
