My local WalMart no longer carries the Lemon Flavored magnesium citrate. I have to go to a chain drug store where it costs twice as much.

I have tried the other flavors, the Cherry especially just does not stay down long enough to do anything.

The grape is not much better.

I can keep the lemon flavor down, but I have had a couple of close calls.

I have learned to put a pillow in front of the toilet, and put ice water in a stadium cup.

Then I kneel on the pillow, take a sip of the Magnesium Citrate, then a sip of water then wait for the aftertaste to start diminishing, and repeat. Then at the end, take several more sips of water Typically it takes me about ten minutes to get it down. If it' is going to come back up, it typically will do so within the next 5 minutes after that. After that, it's safe to drink the rest of the water.

When I am doing a cleanout my large intestine has already been cleared with enemas, and my stomach with fasting, so it's just clearing the small intestine, and goes to work in about 45 minutes.

I tried the Lemon/Lime flavored mag cit. a few times, and found it was a bit easier to get down with a good heavy shot of vodka in it. Kind of tasted like a vodka/7 made with flat tasting diet 7. It also works better drinking it through a straw so you don't get the full taste of it.

This is the problem: In the case that you will take magnesium citrate it will be barely possible to diminish the taste. On the contrary to this it is effectively possible to diminish the taste and the high viscosity of castor oil by mixing this in your mouth with the saliva before swallowing this.

I had to take that awful stuff the night before I went in for a hysterectomy. I had the cherry flavor, never again, I hope!

In my country it's call Citrafleet, the taste is good, like a lemonade 😃

That stuff is just nasty I had to drink that stuff before my colonospsy. Couldn't keep it down at all. Spent the whole night in the bathroom. Was really cranky the nexr day.

I've had both Mag. Citrate and the PEG solutions and I prefer the Mag. Citrate, due to it's lower volume. I drank the cherry flavored Mag. Citrate and didn't find it all that bad, compared to the gallon of PEG solution. If it cleans out the small bowel, I would like to take it and enemas til clear prior to a colonoscopy.

I have dumped a half pint of Mag Citrate into a gallon of cool filtered water. It was fun and a little different.

I want/need a total cleanout. Mag cit is the only way to get it that I know of. Problem is I hate the taste, but doesn't everyone? Can you recommend a favorite brand, flavor, procedure.

Assume you are talking about magnesium citrate. Seems I’ve read that chilling it makes it easier to drink.

Try the flavored versions, cherry goes down easy.

I think @Rigel may have a good suggestion. In Jamaica a popular drink some time ago (may still be…?) was Wray & Nephew Over Proof Rum (151 proof). That's about 75% pure grain alcohol !! Nastiest tasting sh_t known to man (or woman). Only way to drink it was ice cold…or chase it with a BIG glass of ice water!! If it works with Over DONE rum, should work with magnesium citrate. The mag citrate tastes better to start out with !!!

Walgreens (if there is one in your area) has a house-label that's pretty easy to take. Lemon is not too strong or “off” and it works well. Walgreens owns other brands, so check them out, too.

Or you use large doses of PEG/Miralax. That should work as well if you really want to be cleaned out.

Virtually ALL the prescription bowel preps contain Sodium Sulfate also known as “Glauber's salt”

Most also contain PEG3350 also known as Miralax

You can make the exact same thing out of readily available ingredients

Start with Miralax( or one of the “house” brands) The large bottle. You do yourself a huge favor by going liquid diet the day you do the mix

Before bedtime:

Pour all of it into a container that can comfortably hold 64 oz

Add a rounded teaspoon of Sodium sulfate.

Add a rounded teaspoon of table salt(sodium chloride)

Shake it up. Add some water. Shake it again, add the rest of the water and shake it again. Then put it in the fridge overnight

Next day :u

Without eating any solid food, take 4 Dulcolax or “house” brand bisacodyl tablets.

Wait one hour

Begin drinking the Miralax mixture every 15 minutes so you go through half of it in 2 hours. Then take a break. Stay near the toilet and don't wear anything that it takes long to pull down, because you may not have much time.

During that time you will have many large loose, increasingly watery bowel movements.

After the two hour break, drink the rest of the mixture. You might have to slow things down if the nausea gets past the moderate range.

That will wash you out from the top. Cleans out the small intestine without any additional meds.

Magnesium citrate is not the only way for a total cleanout. Since centuries ago it is well known that a good dose of castor oil will do a good job too.

It's one of those things I don't let myself run out of!

You make sure you never run out of certain things, and as far as I'm concerned Magnesium Citrate is among them!

Mag Citrate the drink from Hell. A dozen enemas are easier than downing that stuff GAAACK !

Wow, yeah I have never been a fan but have been made to drink it for punishment, it’s shall we say, very effective.

Evil stuff. I’ve only taken it for colonoscopy prep. I tolerate it better on the first dose the night before. When I do the second dose the morning of, it’s much more nasty—IMO

For me at least, it’s because it’s the “first taste of the day” so to speak. I’ve tried different flavors of it, but flavors don’t really take the edge off.

I was given Magnesium Citrate by my parents - I remember it came in a small glass bottle and was given cold. I can't remember how much I had to take, and I thought I given it before going to bed - but how could that be since from what is written here it works rather fast.

This was an actual barium enema prep from the 1970s

Lite breakfast, no solid food, alcohol or dairy products from 9 Am on the day before.

7 AM simple Fleet enema in left side position.

Any time there is Magnesium Citrate involved always have a second bottle ready(The stuff is NOT expensive) in case you just can't keep the first bottle down, you can wait 12 hours and try again!

Put a pillow in front of the toilet.

Fill a stadium cup with ice water.

Kneel on the pillow with the ice water in one hand and the magnesium citrate in the other.

A sip of ice water begins the process.

Then a sip of magnesium citrate and a si[p of water. count to ten. Repeat. keep doing that until you either get to the end of the magnesium citrate or feel too nauseated to continue. My first few times using this method, I had it actually come up into my mouth and had to re-swallow. The reason for such a large cup of ice water is so you can drink a few extra sips of water along the way and not have to worry about running out. drink the rest of the stadium cup over the next hour or so. You need to drink all the water you can.

You WILL see results in no more than 3 hours, often not much more than an hour. You don't want to leave the house, or even get too far from the bathroom, because the stuff does NOT cut you any slack! When it feels like it's coming, IT IS! It WILL be loose watery poop. Some people have compared it to pond scum!

After 3 hours, take 4 Dulcolax tablets (I use the generic bisacodyl) I have found that about half the times I have done this, I have had to take the bisacodyl while sitting on the toilet.

Normally the process will wind down about 8-12 hours after the bisacodyl with only clear fluids passing.

As soon after that as you feel good enough you can go back to eating normally.

It is going to take some days( Not weeks, Days!) to re-establish normal bowel movements.

This is something you should do only OCCASIONALLY, no more than 2-3 times per YEAR!

You should not take ANY other laxatives, enemas or suppositories for at least two weeks before or 6 weeks after this cleanse.

Why would anyone want to torture themselves with this magnesium citrate procedure unless ordered by a doctor for a procedure? I have on occasions a bowel problem and I take some Metamucil and the next morning a baking soda enema. That works fine.

Cherry flavor is not too bad
