What Before the Internet?

I know from reading it that Dr Spocks authorative guide to childcare specifically said that enemas should not be given to children. The rationale was that they would make the child feel as if he were blowing up.

I haven’t read Dr Spock’s guide, but I know it went through many editions over many years. The earlier editions recommended enemas as a treatment and gave instructions for preparing them. Later editions recommended against them.

One of the treasures available on the Internet is Google Books. There are options to allow "previews" of many of the books that are archived. In many instances, there are only "snippets". I've spent countless hours reading and researching my favorite topic. Many illustrations are included, but those that are copyrighted aren't available. Many of these books, texts, and magazines are dated back into the late 1800's. There are many from the 1900's up until today.

I have personally read the Dr. Spock books on childcare and noted the change in recommendations relative to enemas. Additionally, there are those books that deal with the topic from an early perspective versus the more recent perspectives. I love Google Books and even have found some erotic stories in their archive.

The Gerson, Raw Food, and Natural Health advocates are also proponents of colon cleansing with enemas. It's no wonder that my mom and grandma were so inclined to use the enema bag when I was young.

It seemed as though they were crazy at times. I certainly felt guilty for my obsession until I discovered they were legitimately prescribed and used for many different circumstances and maladies. Obviously, the medical profession couldn't arrive at a consensus for quite some time.

Yes because I was only 16 at the time, and in Mississippi you had to be 21 to enter adult book stores. A friend at the sheriff's department hooked me up with a fake ID!!!

I understand the age requirement. In the Netherlands it was most likely the same with the added issue that back then you weren't an adult until 21. But what I had a good laugh about was a store owner actually asking for your id. Which is actually illegal as only police officers or government officials can ask to see an id. If they ever asked (which they didn't) you could lie and that was legal enough cause store owners are not allowed to check ids ... nice little Catch-22 in the people's favor ... ha ha

And over here we all have government mandated ids from the age of 12 upwards. No way you can fake those, only steal blanks and then forge ... and you definitely do not want to be caught doing that ...

In the UK, for me it's was Forum magazine. This used to contain some articles on Medfet and general kinkyness. I do remember reading about enemas on there, but nothing like the detail we have now. It also had a contact section where I met a guy for spanking. Would that the internet had been invented 30 years earlier, for all sorts of reasons!

My recollection about the Spock books is similar to one-eyes. In the early editions he approved of enemas, but not routinely. He came out to disapprove of them, beginning in the 1950s. Mom started treating us pre-Spock with an illustrated guide to baby care that showed an enema being given to a young child with a bag..

I am 60 and so when I discovered my parents enema set in their bathroom I started experimenting and have been doing enemas ever since. So I started out in the early 70s with just an enema set to play with when the house was empty and no information other than my own curiosity. I think Penthouse deserves some credit for bringing some of these things like enemas a little more mainstream with their Special Preference letters and Forum magazine. For a lot of us they were the first sign there were others like us out there. I remember my early days visiting adult bookstores. There were none close by where I lived so it usually was a road trip. Most times it was with a buddy or two after a few beers and there was no issue looking through the majority of suck and fuck books, but if I wandered over to the fetish section it was likely to be commented by my buddy something like, "Hey, what sort of perverted stuff are you looking at today?" So finding and buying something enema related did not happen. Even after the Penthouse letters in the 70's, enemas still wasn't the subject of regular discussion but at least there was information at the local gas station and other places without having to sneak across town to the book store.

I remember looking in the big book case in a spare bedroom long ago. Mostly there were novels and hunting adventure books. One day I dug deeper and discovered a large red colored hard cover book on Mothercraft that was rather huge with almost 400 pages. It was probably published about 1950 or so and had mostly drawings and few photos. As I looked through the massive volume, suddenly I stumbled across a few pages on enemas for babies and young children. There were great drawings of different types of syringes and nozzles. The next page was even more fascinating as it described in detail how to wrap a child in a large bath towel and restrain the spread legs while on a bedpan. This allowed the mother easy access to the business end of the child with no help from another family member.l The warm towel calmed the child while the mother applied the bulb syringe to the exposed parts without too much difficulty. The series of drawings was priceless and I was suddenly understanding why my aunt always had a bedpan and a infant syringe on the sink in her bathroom most of the time. Seemed like during my many visits, my younger girl cousins spent a great deal of time in the bathroom with auntie.

This was during a time in our state, late 1970's/early 1980's, when adult bookstores were being busted left and right. The older woman who ran the one I went to always asked, with a nod of the head, to see my ID. I always obliged! When I discovered enema magazines such as Water & Power, a whole new world opened up for me in realizing that I wasn't alone in my love of enemas.

First time in writing in junior high health textbook. A source of many fantasies with girl classmates. By the late 60's, Penthouse "Special interests" provided a whole new view of the subject. I think a few of the college girls would have been willing. My fiancé did!

Internet came much later. I do remember a Hustler cover and article.

My interest in enemas began before I was five. By the time I was 10 I started looking in medical books, heading straight to the index. There were magazines that had medical advice columns that occasionally mentioned enemas. Keep in mind this was the 50s and early sixties. I would go to libraries and search for books an magazines that had the word enema in them. When I discovered the Platinum magazines in an ad in the back of Penthouse I made my first trip to a "dirty book store" When I got on the internet in 1996, one of the first searches I did was for "enema". I expected my computer would start smoking and sirens wold go off and the police would be at my door.

I found this big thick medical book with pictures and drawing on how exams were done and different treatments for different issues, enemas, digital rectal exams, all sorts of new and really cool things to read find out about and explore.

I remember looking in dictionaries, medical books etc. found at home for information on the genitals and other "dirty" things.

I also was fascinated by the clysterings mentioned or depicted in the the 16th-18th century... had a good laugh when I read about the antics of some nobles at the court of Louis XIV (some lady was about to get an enema from her maid, the clyster syringe was ready and she was kneeling butt up, skirts pulled up etc., some dude came in and injected the clyster, and when the maid came back and asked the lady to go into position, the lady wonder whether the devil had given her her enema!).

There was a time when it was impossible to learn about the erotic connection with enemas in any public forum. I do recall looking up the topic of enemas in encyclopedias and medical publications as a young person but, of course, my findings were without any type of sexual reference. It wasn't until stories began showing up in Penthouse, followed by the bathtub scene in "The Devil and Miss Jones," and eventually with publications hitting the adult bookstores, such as "Waterworks" and "Water and Power," that I learned there were others who shared this common interest. However, those connections to the Klismo world remained few and far between, until the internet arrived and made it possible to actually chat directly with others through sites like Zity and to realize there are actually many of us who do exist in this world. I feel fortunate to have been able to chat with others and read about the experiences and fantasies of so many men and women who are members here.

I always had access to technical information about enemas. My main problem before the Internet was thinking I must be the only human being so weird as to enjoy enemas. I always thought everyone else considered getting an enema as a medical necessity that they tolerated and probably disliked. I did eventually find enema information in adult bookstores but this website is the best thing that has happened to me with respect to learning to be comfortable with my enema interest and fully enjoying it.

But that does not mean there is a good answer.

It required lots of research at the library to discover anything about enemas. I was lucky and went to school where they had an excellent medical library but still, it took a lot of time locating dusty old books to get any real information. Then, once the mechanics and procedures and formulas were found there still was no mention about the erotic nature of enemas; that was left to further looking at "adult" stores of magazines with lots of the usual hype and very little substance. The interweb has made this and other research a lot easier and more efficient.

I have availed myself to most of the sources mentioned by others. One of my favorite places was a used and rare bookstore that encouraged patrons to stick around and read. They had a snack bar and places to sit with small tables. Their health, nursing, and medical section carried books as far back as the late 1800's. These were quite informative and the illustrations captivating.

I came across the Hite Report on sexuality during one lunchtime session. It covered enema use as a sexual preference or stimulant. That prompted some additional reading about psychology and fetishes. This really helped provide some degree of understanding of our unusual kink. The various health, first aid, and home nursing texts were also quite informative.

While I didn't need any other source to clue me in as to the sexual stimulation provided by enemas and equipment, it was sure nice to realize there were others who shared similar inclinations.

I was in a big name hospital for three days and two nights earlier this week and when I tried to get on to zity.biz, I got a message saying it was blocked. Did you try any other sites that would more normally be considered on the naughty side? If so, were those blocked too?

At that point, I gave up on the project, so I cannot tell you how far their censorship went. I may be going there in a couple of months for a checkup and can try then. Having just finished a radio ablation on my heart, I was not in much shape to think about alternatives.

In many hospital medical center and corporate environments these sites are blocked.

Before the internet, people got information from adult book stores and hook-ups were through personal ads in magazines, even upstanding ones.

I'm surprised - zity is so well known that it is in blocklists? I thought they mostly blocked major porn video sites like xhamster

Zity was not blocked in hospital I was in. But its blocked in my college.
