State of dress during auscultation

I'm always auscultated with a bare chest. I either lower my gown or take off my bra.

I've had it bare chested and over a shirt or gown.

With my bra on. I've been asked to just lift my shirt and sometimes asked to take it off

After reading many of these posts, I remembered when I had bronchitis. I've never smoked so I don't know the cause.

I don't remember what the doctor prescribed but I do remember he didn't auscultate me topless.

If I have to go to urgent care for something, it’s either over my shirt or they slip it up and under my shirt. For my regular doctor and Obgyn-always fully topless with a paper gown that covers nothing. They just move it out of the way when they need to listen.

My PCP always listens to my heart, lungs, and bowels with her stethoscope on my bare skin, while I'm undressed from the waist up, which is how I prefer it. I won't return to a provider who insists on auscultating my heart and lungs over my shirt, but then has me expose my abdomen for bowel auscultation.

Maybe one day I'll get the nerve to ask my doctors why they always auscultate me over my clothes or over a gown.

My last time (early November 2022) it was done over my shirt, she listened to my heart, lungs, and bowel that way. Before then I had a semi-physical for a factory job and it was done under my shirt but with it still on. Before that was my separation physical from the Navy and I took my shirt off.

I don't why most healthcare providers these days, especially in the US, are afraid of examining and auscultating a naked human torso.

I offer to lift or remove my shirt, and if the provider detests, that will be my last time seeing them.

It dépends on the purpose. If i an in for a physical., i an normally topless, and if gowned, the gowm Is often dropped, becoming a lap cover.

Sick calls are often done over shirt, or under top and over under shirt.
