9 months ago latest urologist was stumped and referred me for "prostate massage/biofeedback", eight 1-hour sessions, 1 week apart.
"Pelvic floor therapy" was how it was billed so evidently it's a version of it (but I'm a guy, so I'm not sure what version, if any)
Every week, I'd show up at an office housed in a local med school; take off everything below the waist, get on my back on an exam table (no stirrups, but I had to lift my legs up while a metal/plastic probe was inserted in my butt, then lower my legs back down.)
For the next hour, electric current was applied in 15-minute "programs"; 15 seconds of current (applied to the metal probe in my butt), 15 seconds rest, for a 15-minute session. Different position, probe would be backed out slightly or inserted slightly more, current increased slightly for 15 more minutes. The feel of the current was uncomfortable - was getting painful towards the end of the hour but they wanted it to go as high as I could take it.
The techs kept asking if I'd noticed "improvement in my symptoms", when I asked What Symptoms? I don't have control problems - was told that these sessions were mainly to improve sphincter tone and something else, to help bladder control; that they usually saw women who'd started to "dribble" after pregnancy, I was the first guy they'd seen in quite a few months; they were trying this on me because the dr. had run out of things to try.
Qualified as prostate massage too but not what I'd pictured (or had, briefly, by a PA who was trying to treat prostate problems, and massaged mine with his index finger to get fluid on the slide he was holding under me.) Since I didn't have bladder problems, can't say if this works or not but they led me to believe that it's fairly common and effective treatment for some people, ladies mostly. Show of hands?
