I have a recipe for herbal soap that I plan on making this Christmas for the ladies in my family. IC runs in my family so we can't use most bubble baths, scented soaps, etc. This is a natural product, so it will be less irritating to the bladder.
I'm sure it could also be used to make herbal suppositories if anyone is interested in giving it a try with your favorite herbal enemas.
Herbal soap
2 cups grated Ivory soap (one bar)
1 tablespoon pulverized dried herbs - suggestions below
1/4 cup boiling water
5-6 drops essential oil or perfume, if desired (I wouldn't recommend perfume and some essential oils can be irritating, so use with caution. A light sesame oil might be nice to use. Peppermint might not be too harsh. But stay away from cinnamon or clove oils.)
Herbs to use: Chamomile, lavender, peppermint, catnip, ginger (if you like the heat), slippery elm (soothing to mucus membranes), pau d'arco (good for regulating intestinal balance). I can't think of any herbs other herbs right now, but do your research to see which ones you might enjoy. I don't know if coffee would be good, but it wouldn't hurt to try.
Place grated soap in a heat-proof bowl.
Place dried herbs/flowers in a small pan and pour boiling water over them. Let steep 15 minutes.
Reheat water until boiling and then pour over soap.
Mix together with your hands and let it sit for ten minutes. Shape each into a ball and place on waxed paper. Let dry for three days at room temperature before wrapping in tissue paper. Makes 6. (For suppositories, you will want to shape them into thin cylinders.)
Let me know if you try it and how it worked for you.
