Cloth Diaper Tips

After 50 years of wearing cloth diapers and plastic pants I was curious about any tips about the use of diapers and plastic pants.

Both care and use.

A couple that I have found are; Keep your diapers to no more than 4 layers per diaper. Any more and they don't wash as clean and can hold nasty odors. They also dry much faster. I like to bulk up by using multiple diapers of 4 layers each.

Always rinse as your diapers as soon as possible before washing. I rinse my diapers out when I shower. Using the shower water while I wash to rinse the diapers. I wring them out and toss them in the pail next to the shower. I use a little extra bleach (about 3 tablespoons) in a large load. Don't pour on the diapers!!!! Most machines have a side opening for bleach, that's what I use. Also I use flatfold diapers (ACD's Purity are awesome) and add infant flat diapers for soakers. 4 pins 2 at the waist 2 at the legs keeps everything nice and snug when they get a little wet. Buy the biggest flat diaper available and fold it to fit.

I buy my plastic pants 2 sizes bigger than needed to fit. I liked them tight but they wore out way too fast. They rarely tear when plus sized and it seems to reduce leaks. They look really babyish and poofy but that just add to the fun.
