Hello All,
I saw a post but can't seem to find it by a member that was desperate to save his failing plastic pants.
For what it's worth, I came across a post some time back (don't know where) about a cure for stiff baby pants.
There's a product called Plastic Softener that is used by fishing lure hobbiest to soften plastic worms.
The guy swore by it so I had to try it.
The stuff is made by M-F Manufacturing and it is a clear liquid. You can purchase it at pouryourownworms.com
It really does work. Gotta say I was more than skeptical. Here's what I do;
Pour a tablespoon or so -more if needed - on the plastic pants and rub it over the entire surface inside and out. I try to avoid the elastic but
that seems to be where the plastic gets the stiffest, so make sure the plastic there gets a heavy dose.
After you are satisfied with the coating put them in a ziplock bag, roll the bag tightly and zip it up while it's still rolled up.
This will remove almost all the air. Put them away for about a week and if they are still stiff coat the stiff areas again and repeat the process.
Some times it takes a month or more before the pants absorb the softener. If you see that it's not absorbed and the plastic is still stiff, give it more time. If the softener is gone and pants are still stiff give it another coat. Once they are soft again wipe them off with a towel and they're ready to go.
The plastic softener is about 25.00 a quart. It's pricey but I've saved two plastic rompers and at least a dozen pairs of plastic pants.
