Anyone go through a similar experience to this ?
I wet the bed right up to and into my teens. When I was young, I was put into nappies to see if that 'sorted me out' !! I have a sibling who was born disabled. There were nappies in the house for many years as the disability included double incontinence.
I'm not going to turn this into a rant about crap parenting skills, maybe a psychiatrist should hear that tho...
I was never stripped and washed by my parents after getting out of my wet bed. I was the kid who smelled all the way through school and was ridiculed and taunted because of it.
I don't remember the specifics, but I improved on personal hygiene aroud 14 - 15 maybe. Things at school never improved though even if my odour did.
Had I been kept in nappies until the problem stopped, life might have been much different. The cause of the bedwetting, though never medically diagnosed, was probably due to emotional stress, living in a house where rows, arguments and mum crying were ever-presents. I left home and joined the Armed Forces as soon as I could to get away from there.
Now I have genuine bladder problems. I have been through every kind of external catheter / convene and drainage bag configuration. I either peed them off or they would come off when I sat down. When my bladder wants to empty itself it does. The only thing that works is absorbent underwear. One thing you quickly realise about disposable and terry cloth nappies beneath rubbers, is that odours are kept in. How different might childhood have been had I and my smell been kept in nappies ??? I spend a lot of time nowadays resenting and actually disliking my parents as a result of my crappy childhood.
I hope nobody else experienced similar. If you do, or have or know someone else who does, TELL THEM they have an odour, help them (or you yourself if it applies). Very rarely is enuresis due to a physical defect or abnormality. Don't let other kids grow up being highly visible due to their odour !!
Is this a major cause of AB/DL tendencies ? Wake up in a wet nappy = much more preferable than a wet body and a soaking wet bed = nappies are good - nappies are warm and cosy - nappies make bedtime more appealing cos the bedding doesn't smell !!
I imagine lots of us came across infantilism as a result of similar childhood experience ??
