Breast exam

Ladies does your gynocologist do your breast exam with you sitting up or laying flat on the exam table or do they do it both ways? My girfriends gynocologist only examines her breasts with her laying flat on the exam table. I thought it was always good to do breast exams both ways sitting up and laying flat so that way the doctor can feel if there are any unusual lumps or masses in her breasts. What does your doctor say to you when it is time to do the breast exam? My girlfriends doctor says i am going to do your breast exam now please take your arms out of the gown and just let it fall to your waist.

Both my gynecologist and family doctor do my breast exam with me sitting and laying down.

My gynecologist examines my breasts both sitting and laying down. My family practice doctor does my breast exam in just the laying down position, although she palpates under my arms while I'm sitting up, just before she has me lay back to examine them.

I get my breast exam in both poitions also. Usually first done while sitting then again while laying down.

Mine does both ways.

The one exam I went to with my wife, she only had them examined laying flat with both arms over her head. Doctor didn't even look at them, just inserted her hands through a large slit in the front of the fabric gown.

My current gyno does the exam with me laying down, but one breast exposed at a time. Previously, the doctor looked at my breasts sitting up and leaning forward before doing the breast exam laying down.

My gynecologist examines my breasts in both the sitting up and lying down positions. My family doctor usually does it with me lying down.

Does your doctor squeeze your nipples ?

No, she doesn't squeeze my nipples, just presses around them to check for discharge.

Most of the exams I have witnessed only included a breast exam with the woman lying down. Although over the years I have seen a couple of exams in which the patient was sitting up first and then lower to the lying position to re-examine the breasts. I wonder why some doctors only do it with the patient lying flat while others do it both ways?
