In for a long morning
As Renée sat in the waiting room she sensed it may be a long morning. This would be the third of four appointments for fillings. The first two went pretty easy. Two single surface amalgams on the lower left and 2 weeks later back for two single surfaces on the lower right. She wanted to skip this appointment. Although, more recently her tooth on the top right started to hurt more often, especially whenever she had anything cold. And she loved ice cream. This morning she wanted to cancel, but new she had to go in and see the dentist - no matter what.
It was beautiful April spring morning. Renée looked stunning in her white silk blouse, black leather skirt, suntan nylons and black 4 1/2 inch high heels. She was a petite brunette with brown eyes about 5’ 2” (without her heels). She was a little nervous, trying to think about other topics to distract herself, but that wasn't working so well. “I wish this was just done already” she thought to herself. But she did in a way enjoy being the feeling of being in the chair with that handsome dentist looking down over her, his silhouette in the light. Oh, there could always be worse places i guess, she thought to herself.
The assistant came out and said “Renée – we're ready, come on back”. She slowly, nervously stood up, “right this way - come on its going to be fine". As they walked down the hall into the fourth room The assistant introduced herself , "I'm Melody, and we'll be right in here. I'll be with you the whole time". Renée went in and sat down in the chair. A soft blue, Dental-EZ “JS” chair. All the instruments were in place and ready on the tray in front of the chair. Three drills perched in their holders right in front. Melody started to put a bib on “that’s really a pretty blouse. It looks expensive; we should probably get a drape for you”. She reached down and pulled a clear/blue plastic drape out of a drawer. It looked like one the used at a hair salon only smaller and tighter. Oh gosh, Renee thought to herself, why do they need that! She fidgeted a little, and laid her head back, staring at the ceiling. Avoiding looking at the tray filled with "instruments of doom".
