Relax!!
Don't rush!!
No distractions from cell phones notebooks laptops etc.
Wait a minimum of 8 ,better 12 hours after you eat.
Set a goal for retention time. 15 minutes is ideal It lets the enema fully propagate through the large bowel, right up to the small bowel. Anything over 15 minutes, and the walls of the bowel can absorb too much water and cause cardiac and kidney issues. Have a clock with a display large enough that you can see it without any glasses.
Pick a location like a bedroom or bathroom. Most kitchens are just too far from the bathroom. It should be familiar and comfortable, as well as reasonably close to the toilet. The room should be lighted, but not too bright and glare-filled.
Use knee-chest position(Careful! NOT Knee-neck, you don't need the sore neck!) That way gravity is your friend, not your enemy.
Any clothing needs to be loose-fitting below the chest, and not overly tight there.
Set the height so that the flow is about a quart per minute.
Use water that is warm, but not hot to the touch.
Take your time!!
Point the applicator towards your navel, then take another minute or two to relax.
Take two, three, if you feel you need it even four very deep breaths, as deep as you can.
Breathe in, open the valve, and breathe out.
Then breathe naturally.
Let it flow!! There WILL be some bloating. Pain is uncertain. May happen or not. Usually only for a few seconds.
If the nozzle is a flared-type leave it in That helps retention. if it's a straight type, pull it out as soon as the bag is flat
Maintain position until you are not quite sure if you can make it to the toilet or not. Keep your hands in any comfortable position away from your tummy.
Have an old washcloth or hand towel, that has seen it's better days in easy reach, so that you can use it as a bite rag, a squeeze rag or both.
There will be "Waves" or 'peaks and valleys" when you feel like you could go at any minute and when you feel like you have a minute or two.
If even the bite rag isn't helping, start taking slow deep deliberate breaths When the peak goes down go back to breathing naturally.
When it is time to go, walk fast, but don't run. If you are really not sure you'll make it, lean forward and put your hands above your head.
Do these things, and you should be able to retain a 2-qt enema 15 minutes. Not easily at first, but it's not supposed to be easy.
