Can doctors ever smell a woman's scent?

I am curious whether or not a doctor or play doctor can ever smell the scent of a healthy woman's vagina when giving her a pelvic exam.

Sure that can, but what they're smelling for is the odor of disease. It like asking of the doctor can smell you armpits if the exam is in the heat of summer - Yes, but the healthy smell of sweat is not an issue.

I am not so sure if the doctor has stuffy nose, sore throat and is running a temperature, in which case the patient might have to smell and describe for the doctor. Or better still, if the doctor has olfaction. In either case, the doctor needs to be given a physical 😃

Other than that, I do not see why the doctor cannot distinguish healthy smelling vagina from the smell of ones with infections.

I'm not asking whether or not a doctor can distinguish between the smell of a healthy or unhealthy vagina, I'm asking whether or not a doctor can smell a healthy woman's scent when giving her an exam i.e. when opening up her vagina.

Come on, Suzie, every part of every body, especially those that are naturally moist, have a natural scent.

I would think so. I went out with a gal who had a distinctive and strong natural odor in her privates. She was in excellent health and was meticulous in keeping herself clean, inside and out.

The whiff test: a drop of KOH on a slide with a drop of vaginal secretions produces a distinct amine odor (fishy smell) in the presence of bacterial vaginosis. Other infection have a different odor but are not as diagnostic as the whiff test.

No. Assuming the woman is clean there is no odor. As a nurse I've helped with plenty of pelvics. No odor unless there is an infection or the person is unclean.

I think it's a issue of semantics. Everything in nature has an odor. Most of those odors are so normal for us that our brains don't even recognize them unless we concentrate. I'd hope that the doctor doing a pelvic exam is concentrating.

In western society, we try to deodorize everything. We've been brainwashed to think that odor = dirt. It's just not true. I spent 16 years in neonatal, pediatric and maternal emergency medicine. I'm not just a layman making conjecture based on sexual partners. My experience is that EVERYBODY has odors of their own.

I agree with Jds4med. There is no such thing as a pussy or penis WITHOUT ANY form of odour - unless, of course, you've just stepped out of a bath or shower. Our genitals have a natural, musky odour, even when completely clean and free from infection. When women are ovulating, they secrete scents (including feromones) which are supposed to attract males - which are picked up completely sub-consciously. Never forget that humans are just another animal species on this earth, and in terms of the workings of our reproductive systems, not all that much different from other higher species like our nearest relatives, the primates.

I have been with many women in my life. There is an obvious difference between and odor and a scent. Some women have no scent yet others have a distinct scent which is exciting and inviting. On the other hand it has been my experience that the few times I experienced an odor which by the way was a complete turn off, the vagina was a deeper red in color which to me meant infection. Not to be too raunchy but I have also been with my partner while on the go for spontaneous sex and she had not had a chance to wash, in that case there was her scent and a slight odor which I suppose came from her urethra since she had been peeing all day. In any case when there are genuine feelings and trust if it is a problem my feeling is you need to have an open discussion with her, without hurting her feelings. By the way part of that discussion should also include the question is she experiencing an unpleasant scent/odor with your genitals. What's good for the goose is good or the gander. *smiling*
