I grew up in an upper middle class familly in the 60's in Paris, France..
My mother tended to be overprotective and she took my rectal temperature every time she thought I looked sick or tired, so that was about every second week
She was allways nice and gentle when she took my temperature. She would tell me stories or tell me about her own childhood as the thermometer registered and I must say I enjoyed those moments of intimacy.
Rectal temperature was the norm for the whole familly.and there was nothing chilldish or shamefull about it As far as I know, my parents allways took their temperature rectally and I never heard of a mouth thermometer. When I was 13, my mother stopped taking my temperature and my parents gave my own thermometer to take care of my own health.
Since then, and till now, at 70, rectal had been the only way I know of to take my temperature. I would not know what to do if I were given a mouth thermometer.
I have also develooped a strong rectal temperature fetish, but that is another story.
As a child, I never heard of enemas. I discovered them at school at 10 or 11 when we studied plays by Molière, a French famous theater writer, who in the 17th century, wrote comedies about medecine with many references to ''lavements'', the French word for enemas. Most of my classmates were in the same situation.
Now, at 70, I never had an enema. May be I miss something.
