In 1973 I met "Dave" who was the person behind "Beth Tyler" and, while it was a working name, there was a real "Beth Tyler" at the time, Mrs. Dave. They later divorced. I helped him with a few projects at the start, until he was on his feet. Probably the worst of times for him was when he was arrested when one of his models was alleged to be underage. That would probably be a lot worse today, it was in the late 70's when he was still in Connecticut. He said he never made a lot of money, and from my experience that would probably be true... and it's worse today, since this is a niche business, and prices have gone down from around $100 for a VHS tape to $20 to $30 for a DVD. Today the average cost to produce a "solo" video is typically over $1,000. You have to sell between 40 and 50 to be at a break even.
But a thanks and a "tip of the hat" to the late "Dave" for being a pioneer.
There was another, George Darbon, also passed a few years ago, I was approached by someone wanting to sell his collection, but at the asking price.. well way too rich for my blood.
Other than what shows up in the internet occasionally, are any of the stills from Beth or George available for sale?
So that leaves us with The Collector and Stonefox, and each fills a Niche and there seems to be a lot or random stuff that you can find on the net, as we all know. For a few months there was "Lonestar Becky," also known as Becky Murphy. The story is that the fellow who ran the site had told "Becky" the pictures were for is personal use, and when she found you could buy them on the web, all hell broke lose.
Of course many of us have to thank the old "Screw" newspaper's classified ads for helping us find each other long before the internet.
Before there was Beth Tyler there was a fellow from Portland, Maine that helped us exchange photos and stories. Rumor has it he is now a "guest of the state" in Thomaston due to the age of some of his "contacts.", but that may just be rumor. Bob was the person that got Dave & I together so I could provide some input on the technical side. And Bob may still have several hundred feet of Super 8 of my ex... .
