Hi Kids!
I have not been able to post any articles for over several weeks. I went to the ER with excruciating pain in my legs and was diagnosed with Guillian-Barre' Syndrome. This very painful disease only affects 2 in about 100,000 people....I should be so lucky in the lottery!
I needed to be air-transported to a larger hospital which could diagose and treat this syndrome. After that, I was intubated for 9 dalys and prettly much unconscious due to the morphine and other pain killers along with versed....unfortunately, I was conscious several times duriing that time span and do recall the tremendous pain and not being able to talk or swallow....what horrible memories!
I had tubes in every orifice, including a rectal tube which was regularly "cleaned out", although I do not remember much of this.
After the ET tube was finally removed, I still could not talk or swallow properly....it took several days to be able to do these activities. I was still fed by an NG tube which remained in place for over 3 weeks. Every so ofen, I would simply defacate in the bed and get cleaned up....a total loss of dignitly and privacy.
Well, after five weeks, I was transferred to a "Rehab" facility. Not nearly the great care of the ICU and you learn to beg for pain pills. This was my intro to severe constipation due to the huge amount of pain pills and medicines, including oxycodone and the fentynl patch. I was given regular evening "mini enemas" and then had to negotiate my wheelchair to the bathroom and release before crapping all over myself and the surrounding area....quite a challenge. On one occasion, the night nurse just "crammed the unlubed enema" into my already sore rectum....how is that for fulfilling hospital fantasies!
I am home now and still need to use enemas due to the effects of the pain medication.
All in all, my hospital experience was certainly not a fantasy fulfillment...I did not come across any nurses or nurse assistants who were gentle with their enema insertions. Oh Well! I am finally home doing my own thing and hopefully will recover from this monster disease in a few months.
It is nice to be able to visit online with this group!
