Parkinsons

Hi, been told i have parkinsons, about a year ago, also just had my gall bladder removed, constipation is a real issue, bit ironic i know, but also have the squirts, bowel habits have gone haywire since op, on a day when i manage a bm, i spend rest of day wondering if im going to shit myself !

Anyone here in same position as me ? and how do you manage things.

One problem is that i get a very full feeling in my gut, and suspect i need to go, but theres no actual signal that i should go, and i can sit for ages on the loo and nothing, till i use a suppository.

Changes in bowel habits are very common post-cholecystectomy and what you describe is very similar to what friends have talked about after their procedures. I'm not sure how Parkinson's would play into the issue, but I suspect that it does. Is this something that you can discuss with your doctor or an NP? There might be some information available via the web that could be helpful. I don't think there is a magic answer, but you are not alone.

Sirwilliam, Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It can be managed quite well for an extended period of time with the proper medications. I would assume you are probably on a medication called levodopa perhaps? It's a great medication and has a good success rate. It is one of the few medications that I know of that usually do NOT cause any bowel issues. It can and will mess with your glycemic control, so if you happen to be a diabetic please monitor your blood sugars as often as you have been instructed by your own doctor.

Now, Parkinsons as in the disease itself can cause constipation. Having your gall bladder removed will cause the "squirts" as you put it. I knew where every bathroom was in a tri-state area just about after I had mine removed. So I guess what I am saying here is what you are feeling and going through seems par for your diagnosis'. Your squirts will go away probably pretty soon, but with a diagnosis of Parkinson's, your constipation will probably continue. Do what works best for you in that department, and consult your own doctor with whatever you should decide.
