Recently I had major belly surgery, which culminated in the removal of about 2 feet of small and large bowel, where they had been previously hooked up (anastamosed) during previous surgery. I had foley catheter in place, but had specifically asked to remain diapered through my stay in the hospital, as I'm NOT comfortable out of diapers. I've worn them 24/7 for over30 ears now, and it doesn't feel right without them!
A few days after surgery I still hadn't had a bowel movement, and the nurse came in saying Dc wanted me to have a bisacodyl suppository to try to get things moving. She opened my diaper, had me roll on my side, and stuffed that "bullet" as far into me as she could w/ her gloved hand. I was turned back and the diaper refastened to wait for some action.
About 15 minutes later I suddenly expelled a huge fart, certainly a good start, but that wasn't enough for her. She said, "Ring the bell again when you've messed yourself and I'll get you all cleaned up and freshened!"
During the next 30 minutes or so I continued to fart on occasion, but eventually the fart was MUCH more solid, and I filled my diaper. I called her, she said she wanted to wait another 30 minutes or so if I didn't mind too much, because I'd likely have more to pass very soon, and she didn't want to have to keep changing me. That sounded fair to me, and indeed I messed myself twice more before she returned.
I was still unable to move much due to the pain, and when she returned about 45 minutes later I was cleaned very gently and changed into another new ABU Lil Pawz diaper. She and all the other nurses were very impressed by the quality and thickness of the diapers. I also had some Space diapers along, but most nurses preferred the print of the Lil Pawz style!
Doing much better now, but have been having significantly more problems w/ loose bowels. I can't always distinguish between loose and gas,due to nerve damage from the first surgery I had 25 years ago, so have had many more messy diapers recently. No suppositories needed now! 😉
